Bungie and fans continues its free-to-play release of the original Marathon trilogy with Marathon 2’s Steam arrival

Back in May, Bungie and members of the Aleph One fan community decided that the classic series of Marathon FPS games should be re-released for free, starting with the first game (obviously). Now, Bungie has counted to two, as the shooter’s sequel is now on Steam.

Just like the first, this is the classic Marathon 2 game that fans of the series remember, just revived for modern hardware to support widescreen monitors, positional audio, and 60+ FPS interpolation; it even has a free add-on that adds XBLA textures. The shooter is otherwise completely authentic, using the original data files to recreate the original experience. Hurrah for games preservation.
