Sea of Thieves nerfs the blunderbuss, improves throwing knives, and enhances player reporting

It’s time for another bit of knob-turning and adjustment in Sea of Thieves as the latest patch to the FFA PvP sandbox is live with some notable weapon updates for players to pay heed to.

First off, the blunderbuss updates that were discussed recently are now in the game: Targets now have to be closer to be hit by the weapon’s knockback effect, the horizontal knockback distance has been reduced, the effect will be engaged when targets are hit with a single pellet, and bracing against things like ship wheels or capstans will not prevent knockback, though the target will also not be fully repelled.

While blunderbusses have been nerfed, throwing knives have been buffed with faster time to aim a throw and faster projectile speed, as well as a softer controller rumble when using the weapon. Additionally, players can now sprint while wielding certain one-handed special weapons like the Trident of Dark Tides and Ashen Winds Skull, stowing these items on the character’s belt while doing so; the only weapon that doesn’t allow this is the Skull of Siren Song.

Finally, the in-game player reporting system has gotten improvements, such as additional reason choices for a report, an in-game summary of the report as it’s filed, and follow-up replies from Rare that indicate whether an action against a reported player has occurred or if the studio needs further information. These are on top of some added outpost and emporium items and bug fixes; read through the patch notes for all of the granular details.
