Pax Dei’s next early access patch is a major revision for movement and combat

Mainframe Industries has not been shy about its development plans for Pax Dei: Thus far, it’s been emphasizing that the MMO sandbox is a true early access title and that key features are far from done. That includes the game’s combat, which is the subject of the studio’s most recent missive to testers.

“We know combat hasn’t been the strongest aspect of Pax Dei so far, but we’ve been hard at work behind the scenes, almost starting from scratch, to establish the foundations for a solid and dynamic combat system going forward,” Mainframe says. “While this next content update will introduce some exciting additions, it’s just the beginning – significant improvements are on the way.”

With the game’s next content update, the devs explain, running will be the default for characters, plus it’ll look more smooth; swimming will cost less stamina, and falling damage will be more consistent. And those systems play into combat too: Players will auto-face targets in melee, interrupt melee attacks, see better timing for weapon animations, enjoy proper hit detection and more meaningful blocking. Testers can also expect tweaks for spell targeting, new spells, improved enemy attacks, nameplates, camera collision… it’s a lot of stuff.

“As we continue to improve Pax Dei, we’ll work on role identity, balancing all spells, and making gear choices feel more impactful, especially when playing in groups,” the studio concludes. “Expect more updates in the future as we polish these systems even further.”
