It’d be nice if real life worked like an MMO in terms of getting a shine and a burst of light the moment you happened to level up. Wouldn’t that be satisfying? You find yourself more skilled at something and suddenly you’re bursting with energy? It’d be kind of nice. Or maybe that’s just me. But in MMOs you never need to question if you’ve gotten better at something, because you level up like a dang supernova, and every game seems to be on a quest to (ironically) one-up each other in terms of leveling up effects.
But which MMO does it best? There are a whole bunch of different flashing lights and effects that can happen when you get a new level; which one is the most satisfying? Where do you feel best about ticking over into a new level? We’re not worried about the mechanical effects, if there are any, just the combination of visuals and noises that signal a new level.
