Dungeon Fighter Online kicks off open beta today

Sometimes, it’s very difficult to explain what’s happening in the world of MMOs; other times it’s incredibly simple. This is one of the latter times. Dungeon Fighter Online is back in open beta starting today, so if you’ve lamented the game’s unexpected closure and want to get back to beating up monsters in a sidescrolling online brawler? Here you go! Have fun.

A new trailer has been cut together showing off classes and gameplay for the open beta test, which can be viewed just past the break. The first test will run until April 13th, giving you plenty of time to smash the heck out of whatever you’d like while playing. So jump in and start breaking faces.

This was such an odd game.  I’d love playing it but quickly forgot about it.

imperialpanda FAAAAAR far better than Rusty Hearts in terms of game balancing.  It’s also a whole lot of fun!

The game is so good. Wish the cash shop were live so I could buy FP potions.

That trailer was so 90s… I don’t consider that a bad thing, though :p

Looking forward to playing again. Not looking forward to trying to earn my stuff back.

Madda Nexon gave a vague official reason that it was due to “lack of interest” but basically it was because Nexon designed the game in a way that made it a haven for gold sellers to use bots and hacks and make a lot of money for themselves then did dick all to stop them (as if they even could). In the end they probably looked at the numbers and saw bots outnumbered players 100 to 1 and there was no point to keep the servers running just for bots to burn up bandwidth and make more money selling gold than they did with their own cash shop.

Blackomen and by “dead” you mean staying in Top10 MMOs in Korea China Japan for 10 years straight? The only reason it was shut down in NA is horrible Nexon NA management, lack of updates and abyssmal cash shop. Now it’s all fixed and DFO will rise.

Ehra imperialpanda  Tried it for a bit… seems ok. Graphics does leave something to be desired in 2015. I think I’ll still wait for something else though, probably.

They’re different enough that I wouldn’t say one’s necessarily better than the other. I do prefer DFO myself, however.

Madda http://www.reddit.com/r/DFO/comments/301kpx/why_did_dfo_nexon_go_so_badly/ There’s a lot of reasons, tl;dr Nexon sucks.

So is it better or worse than rusty hearts? The dev publishing it is a plus.

It really is a fun game with decent depth in its mechanics. It’s basically Double Dragon mashed together with Diablo. The controls are solid, and its quite fun to just lay the smack down with your friends. No, this isn’t “main” game material, but it sure is fun filler here and there when you have 30 minutes to spare.

I would play this as a lowbie on a Massively stream :)

Ignore the lame trailer. The game is really fun. A potato can run it. Gameplay is basically sidescrolling beat em up with combos.

Nexon’s mismanagement ruined it.

I have a soft spot for cheesy/corny music like this, the sort of music you find in JRPGs like Mana Khemia or something. I find those kinds of soundtracks to be good filler for when I’m tired of the soundtrack from my MMO of choice. See also: cheesy/corny 80’s rock.

I shut the video off after 10 seconds.  Just..wow.  I suppose there is a market for this, but I’m just not in that demographic.

This is the first time it’s been brought back. You sound angry, you probably shouldn’t be this upset over a video game being made available for people to play.

Probably gonna derp it up in this game this weekend, actually. It was shut-off-your-brain fun when I played it, and I’d like to compare this iteration’s cash shop to the older version.

How does this garbage keep getting revived when good games don’t? This game try deserves to stay dead, maybe after this iteration shuts down it will stay dead.

Hope it works out.  Might play it later when I actually have time between all the other stuff I’m trying to juggle, lol.

Madda  That was when it was ru(i)n(ed) by Nexon.   Though if they do the same cash shop shenanagins that Nexon did, then yeah I don’t see how this’ll last that long.

I like the blatant rip-off of the Street Fighter font. Gross.

It’ll be nice to have DFO back, but wasn’t the general uninterest in the game and cash shop why it was shut down in the first place?
