RIFT 3.3 is going to be awesome for dimensioneers

New planar crafting mechanics aren’t the only things Trion has planned for RIFT‘s next update. Patch 3.3 Waking Nightmares will unleash a number of new dimension keys for fans of the MMO’s building sub-game, including Octus Monastery, Mathosian Cascades, Tempest Island, Tulan, and Everywhere, the last of which is the most epic foggy snowscape ever. There’s also a bunch of new dimension items up for grabs, like the monstrously huge and painstakingly animated Sea Strider frigate that would look awesome half-sunk off the coast of Tempest Island, hint hint.

Check out Riftgrate’s video of all the new bits below.

chosenxeno rottenrotny Don’t they already have like every server linked together in 1 Mega Server like GW2? But have the illusion of their being more than just 1.

Sythalin People always try to find ways to sugarcoat it, but the bottom line is Rift is just another p2w f2p MMO that failed.

I wonder if those items will actually be in-game or on the shop & in lock boxes. Trion has sealed it’s fate as a garbage p2w company.
I would say Trove is their only good game & that is only because it basically Cube World.

True . Can I ask you a question though? How often did you get ganked in Rift ? I am primarily a pvper and I literally went out looking for work pvp on pvp servers and guesting on pve servers with my pvp flag on and the number of times I got attacked was very few . Sadly the pvp really only exists in instances on that game which is why I would never class it as pay to win .

Straylite Sythalin http://www.livefyre.com/profile/72436562/ actually backed his argument up by mentioning the p2w gear in the shop.
all you managed was this:  “no it isnt”

Still the best Traditional Combat MMORPG not named World of Warcraft imo. I did enjoy FFXIV though. I just think Rift’s overall scale and multiple modes of Large Group content edges it past XIV. None of the 3 are going to pull me out of retirement:)

rottenrotny Eventual server merges are why Openworld housing won’t be back.

Sythalin I guess it depends on your definition of pay to win but to me only an idiot would put Rifts freemium system on the same level as ArcheAges .Reading your post you didn’t do this so I assume you’re not that stupid .

I can’t say I like gear being for sale in the cash shop but I play Rift and I have only ever known one person by a piece of gear in the cash shop and I know a lot of people in that game . The cost of becoming fully geared like that is prohibitive to most gamers .There are a few that do it I would imagine though .

Also while there is pvp in Rift its mostly a sub game in its warfronts . You simply don’t see over geared people doing them often . In the main part its people doing dailies and weeklies to earn gear . In ArcheAge the game has a far greater pvp element and while gear is not sold in the cash shop if you are willing to spend enough money in it you can get decent armor and weapons a lot faster .

My definition of pay to win is if a game has a significant pvp aspect and it is possible by spending lots of money in the cash shop to buy gear that will give you great advantage over other players .My view on pve players that do similar is that they are not having any impact on me and they are only cheating themselves out of the gaming experience .

Also every mmo is pay to win if you consider the black market gold sellers and power levelers but of course if you take the risk of account suspension but I know a few people in WoW who did that over the years and got away with it .

Telos_ That odd I think they are among the best character models graphically speaking . Only a game like Age of Conan had better . I guess its a matter of personal taste .

Sythalin Man, I was on your side until I mouseovered your name … this is just stupid. Higher intelligence should be used for the greater good, not for showing off and putting some kids in their places.

Sythalin Straylite “You are way out of your league trying to argue logistics with me”

You’d be correct if word count was all that mattered. Your post seems mighty short on logistics, though I’m not sure what logistics even has to do with anything.

“Now it’s Pay2Win garbage like ArcheAge.’

Is this what you consider constructive comments? Yes, clearly I’m way out of my league.

I really wanted to like Rift, but i can’t stand their character models.  They are some of the ugliest looking, graphically speaking.

Sythalin but you can’t win anything with what you pay for…in either of them….??
I mean, League of Angels for ex. You can pay for a stat boost so you can beat your opponents and its a predmoninant pvp game.
World of tanks, you can pay for higher penetrating ammo so you can kill enemy tanks easier.
Both giving you an advantage over other people for $$ in a pvp setting.

Rift/Archeage…have…neither? Archeage is defineitly pay2craft, but you don’t exactly win by crafting…?

No disagreement on the dumbed down portion, but rift is one of the few games i have a max level char in, and tbh i let my sub run out just because it didn’t benefit me to keep it at max level at all lol there was nothing in game shop that i needed/wanted, and the sub perks do little once you are max.

Cosmic Cleric Rozyn JohnD212 rottenrotny “But honestly, you really think its ok for someone to reserve a housing spot and be out of the game for months at a time?” Nope, which is why I tend to prefer instanced in that case. You are still acting like people don’t “care” enough to play a game, when it’s not always up to them. There are some really loyal players and then life just happens. Like I said though, I think options would be cool, I’m not entirely against uninstanced housing, don’t get me wrong, I’ve just been down this road before and seen peoples’ reactions to it. :)

The main issue with dimensions is that there are just way too many items with no great way to manage them. They should have their own separate collection inventory instead of just being dumped into bags. Alternatively, we should at least be able to break dimension items down into something usable. Some of the environments are impressive, but I still feel like the feature is half baked. I wish they would add more interactivity and some gameplay purpose for dimensions.

Of course it is.  But honestly, you really think its ok for someone to reserve a housing spot and be out of the game for months at a time?  If they are not in-game enjoying the housing, then what are they really going to be disheartened about?  They didn’t care enough to keep playing the game.

Rozyn Cosmic Cleric JohnD212 rottenrotny Real life happens of course. However, you can’t please everyone. Although most MMOs make the mistake of trying to and thus watering down the game as a result.
I’m one of those people who feel MMOs should take a good amount of time dedication, if you don’t have the time… well there are plenty of games that allow for that. Even MMOs.

JohnD212 rottenrotny In game mechanics/rules can take care of that. Simply add necessary upkeep on player built structures.
Something like where you have to do repairs or pay a certain amount of whatever currency otherwise the structure degrades, eventually collapses and disappears, opening up the spot for someone else.

Cosmic Cleric Rozyn JohnD212 rottenrotny Getting everything back in an in-game message is about as disheartening as losing it all if you spent hours placing it. That’s a pretty big downer for someone who was forced to take a break. I think letting people choose is a fine idea, more choice is always better IMO!

Rozyn Cosmic Cleric JohnD212 rottenrotny Well that’s the point.  If you take a break from the game, you shouldn’t be able to keep the plot of land, if other players who are still playing want it.
And nothing gets destroyed, you only lose the plot of land.  The house, with all of its belongings, end up in your in-game email, for you to place wherever else you want, when you next log in.
30 days should be a good/fair time elapsed.  And if someone really wants a plot of land, and they are being deployed elsewhere, they could either ask a friend to login, or email the MMO company support, prove they are being deployed, and get a special waving of the house removal, or an increase in time until it is removed, etc.
There’s no reason to reserve housing plots for people who have left the game for over 30+ days.  They’re not playing the game at that point.  When they come back, let them find a new plot, as now they are playing again.

Cosmic Cleric JohnD212 rottenrotny Players get reeeaaally mad about that sort of thing though. You get military, people who are ill, those who travel for work, etc. feeling left out. I’ve seen it before, it’s always a delicate situation. Having played with uninstanced housing where you’re constantly worried it’ll be destroyed if you take a break from the game, and instanced housing that’s there forever…… I really prefer instanced – or at least neighborhoods.

Cosmic Cleric

Cosmic Cleric

JohnD212 rottenrotny That’s so easy to fix though. Just wait X number of days (10? 30?) with no logins, and pack up the house with its items, and in-game email it to the owner so they have their house still when they next login.
No need to let a player camp a good housing spot if they’re not going to play the game (use the spot).

rottenrotny Nothing worse than walking through 2000 homes that are abandoned or just plain ugly. I don’t think you would truly want it if it weren’t instanced.

rottenrotny “The dimensions are pretty cool, just wish they were un-instanced.”‘
Same for me.  Say what you want about SWG’s and ‘urban sprawl’ but it was so fun finding a great site with a good view to put your house down at.  Loved visiting other houses too by just driving around.  Really prefer my housing uninstanced, seems ‘fake’, otherwise.

One day we’ll have seemless open world MMOs. One day…

Oh wait we already did. Devs just stopped doing that kind of thing for some dumb reason!
