WRUP: Happy holidays, have some glass eyes edition

Happy holidays, everyone! Here is your gift. It is a carefully made box full of glass eyes. I am giving you a box filled with fake eyes. They are not real, but they are made to look real, and I expect you to enjoy this gift. I want you to tell me how happy you are to receive it. I want you to display this prominently in your home.

If you are single, this should be one of the things that prospective dates see when they enter your home. If you are married, this is something that you have to place out prominently whether your spouse likes it or not. It was exceedingly expensive! And you cannot return or exchange it, it was all hand-crafted.

So happy holidays! Have a box full of eyes. Let us know what you’re up to in the comments of What Are You Playing, and enjoy the totally helpful gift that’s sure to start all sorts of conversations.

Andrew Ross (@dengarsw): As a water trainer, I’m excited about the new Pokemon Go event, so clearly that’s happening when I’m not dealing with holiday stuff. Final Fantasy XIV needs some attention still, as does Overwatch.

Brianna Royce (@nbrianna, blog): Jack-all. I picked up some goodies in the Steam sale, but I’ll be confined to mobile games for the holiday and won’t get to touch the new stuff until after. Enjoy it, those of you who get to spend this time gaming!

Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog):I finished the story on Nier: Automata, so it’s just unlocking the post-game stuff and enjoying story analysis and such. I’ll doubtlessly get some time in on World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy XIV, but that’ll have to be between holiday celebrations. Happy Festivus!

Justin Olivetti (@Sypster, blog): I might be winding down game time this weekend to be with family, but I am sprinting toward the top of Orochi Tower in Secret World Legends before the end of 2017. I’m doing that thing where I’m reading through a lot of end-of-year lists to see what I might have missed this year and tack on a few more games to my to-play list. I did pick up Elite: Dangerous, Wild Busters, and Broke Protocol lately, but they’re all getting put on the backburner for now.

Your turn!

Loaded ESO again because its one MMO I havent yet maxed out. Its still pretty grindy and lonely, but at least its new to me. No auction house?

Also checking out SC 3.0, but waiting on them to fix some bugs before its really playable.

Well…much to my surprise, when I finished Ilum, the last world in the first part of SWTOR, I returned to my ship, having skipped the Flashpoint where I guess that last Sith is killed, and there on my mission terminal was that purple triangle, which told me I needed to go to Makeb! That’s the first part of the Rise of the Hutt Cartel. I don’t know when that expansion came out, it was a long time ago, I do know that. So, maybe I was a subscriber when it came out? Since it’s available, on to Makeb. Hey, it’s something to do. Is it bad that I can never find my ship after I’ve finished the story arc for a planet? I have a system now, can’t locate ship–> go to Stronghold–>enter Tatooine–> catch ship at Tatooine space port. …it’s the scenic route but at least I can find the dang ship there. Anyway, please dear God let some game come out in 2018 that is interesting to play.

My birthday so we did lunch and then a one off family session of old school d&d, lots of fun though getting ppl to rp was a little difficult and we kept mixing up the dice. More wine did not help … Could have used the box of eyes spell.

Spent most of the day sleeping off a stomach bug. But my time awake was spent playing Breath of the Wild, the MHW beta, and AC: Origins. I beat all of the Trials of the Sword tonight; feel pretty good about that. Experimented with my weapon of choice in MH (the Charge Blade). And just wandered the world of AC: Origins, marveling at its beauty.

Hope everyone has a safe weekend!

Oh, and I started a (possible) level 1 playthrough of FFXV. We’ll see. Depending on how things turn out, I might cap myself at to-be-determined higher level.

I’ll give the glass eyeballs a pass!

I’m still playing FFXIV, although I’ve barely logged in since starting up BDO again. It has most of my attention, but I’ve managed to pull myself away to partake in Secret World Legends holiday content.

I’m still in the middle of LotRO. My pacifistic alt, a hobbit burgular, has decided she wants to make level 60 before Frostbluff closes up (which shouldn’t be a problem as she’s already level 59). Thing is, she’s pacifistic, and so she does a lot of her leveling in festivals, exploration deeds and crafting, and man is she ever sick of Moria! The winter festival is probably the easiest time of year to level if you’re a pacifist. Lothlorien or bust.

Meanwhile, Blizzard just put Legion (which I don’t have) on sale for $25 … but it’ll be $40 for me to resub as well. Hmmm …. maybe I’ll go bake a loaf of Mulgore Spice Bread
for the holidays and think it over. Have a great weekend and holiday, everyone!

Probably the biggest gaming news around here this week is that my eighty-year-old gamer Pops is now playing Warframe! :-)

After some repairs to his rig, and swapping in a newer video card that it could handle (it’s a non-state-of the-tech, off-the-shelf rig that shipped with crappy onboard graphics), we settled on a Gigabyte Nvidia GT 710).

Pops may not stick with Warframe (he finds its lore and aesthetics fairly incomprehensible), but so far, he’s chipping away at the game, blasting bad guys and calling his computer-controlled opponents all sorts of salty names. :-)

Functionally, the basics of Warframe are the most similar to the later incarnations of the Firefall game (which he LOVED) — meaning, high-tech power armor options with the possibility of gliding and flight, plus guns.

Although, he seems to really like chopping bad guys in Warframe with his sword as well. It’s slightly scary. :-D

If Warframe doesn’t keep him interested, I may try putting the PC version of Destiny 2 in front of him, although I’m not certain if the GT 710 vidcard could handle it …

Anyway folks … regardless of whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Eid, Secular Gift Giving, Hooray Cthulu Stayed Asleep This Year And Didn’t Kill Us, or any of the other 30-ish real-world religious festivals observed at this time of year — may you have a good one, and may the days be good to you.

I know that this time of year can be tough for a lot of folks. The expectations of joy feel like pressure, or else the year-end makes them look back on their life unfavorably.

I’m here to tell you that there are no inescapable expectations on you. Simply live your life day-to-day as best you can. It’s all any of us can do. And there’s no point in judging your past. The past is dust, gone beyond reach. We have today, and we have a promise of tomorrow. That’s it. Seek whatever joys you can, no matter how small or esoteric. That’s enough. You’re enough.

Thanks to everyone who made this year more entertaining for me — your kindness and camaraderie is both acknowledged and appreciated, believe me. My best to you all.

See you next time! :-)

If wearing fake moustaches and pretending to be the mexican housekeeper when mom comes to drag me to family stuff works, I plan on stay tucked in. Couch, blankets, cat, hot tea, fireplace and bingewatching with my bestie…no gaming planned, it just happens if it happens.

If my fake accent fails, I expect mucho disney movies with lil ones from the extended family and lot of forgettable conversation while I hide under the table munching all the foodsies and counting the minutes to midnight :P

This week: Ho-ho-ho!

Also this week: With the folks this Holiday weekend and weekday so I won’t be delving much into my games until early’ish midweek..where I’ll be back to questing for those ever elusive pigtails that drop off that one pirate NPC in Blade & Soul. And a dear friend of mine will arrange a toon boost fro my Xmas pressy for one of my Goblins back in WoW. Like a Yuletide log covered in pink icing, those will be things to look forward to for The Season! Yum-yum-yum! <3

So Happy Holidays! Hope it's full of Tidings of pink joy for everyones! <3

As a person with a prosthetic eye IRL, I’ll happily pass on this very odd gift.

Maybe next year you can hand out a box of eye cancer, you know, as a prequel to this gift.

Won’t be much gaming over the coming days but I am sure I can fit in a bit of Lotro alt levelling. Also I picked up Ghost Recon Wildlands in the steam sale so I will poke that too at some point I expect.

Watched Bright on Netflix and despite the panning the “professional” critics gave it I very much enjoyed it. A Shadowrun lite buddy cop movie with good action sequences that isn’t going to stretch you story wise but is still a fun watch anyway.

Hope everyone has a safe and fun gaming weekend and Santa brings you something a little more inspiring than a box of glass eyes. I see how you are ….. *mumble grumble* BAH HUMBUG! ;-)

Well. There are alot of games I want to play, but I’m making significant progress in BnS endgame and I don’t see that stopping anytime soon.

Uta joined the BnS fun a few weeks ago. She is doing great and I join her when I can to run Heroics, etc. etc. I created a new toon, just for the occasion, and I’m loving my new Warlock.

So, Blade and Soul for me almost exclusively during this holiday weekend. This new Solak expansion has me dialed in.

Below is my tribute to Dawn of the Lost Continent, aka Solak. It is a bit generic to avoid spoilers but, I’m not sure I was completely successful. You have been warned. :)

Mostly final prep for Xmas, final wrapping of presents and I did a shift on Friday so it’s fun seeing how the supermarket is actually full for once.

I got myself a 2 month trial for Foxtel Now with their streaming box, so I was able to finally after all this time catch-up to date with Game of Thrones as I had only made it up to season five previously, but now finished seven. While I kind of found four-six having their moments, I also had my interest wain with the show, so I was glad seven kept going at a nice and speedy pace.

I also noticed that Westworld is a title on the service, i’ve never seen it, but I think it might take the chance to actually watch it now. Maybe get back up to date on Walking Dead, although I think also that I am over that.

Xmas will be a small affair as normal, both my parents were single-children so I don’t have any cousins or aunts/uncles. All my grandparents are gone, so it’s just me and my parents, but hey that’s chill and good, I know they like it now it’s simple instead of all the work which used to have to go into Xmas when we had to have a big dinner or whatever.

Schools just went off for the summer holiday, so it’s going to be crazy anywhere in public with crowds, so I might just faff around and not do much but catch on games I suppose, I have a whole backlog of stuff I need to play.

Happy Xmas or whatever you wish to ya’ll.
Hopefully in this break where people are off will be my time to slip into a position for some more interesting or stable job.

Westworld is pretty good. it has some pretty solid twists in there, and… I’m not going to say anything more. Definitely well worth watching.

I haven’t played any games all week. I stared at a bunch of icons on my desktop this morning though and even picked up a couple of things from the Steam Sale that were on my wishlist.

Gonna head to the gym get that holiday schedule down as from now till the end of the year is my crunch time so that I can avoid the place almost completely for the 1st 2 weeks of the new year. Most casuals are done at that point especially if they got a trainer.

Maybe tonite, once I break my thinking glass out again (buffed with the straw of +1 intuition ), I will be able to just pick a icon and dive back in.

Someone gifted my Mom some plates. We had plates. We had plenty of plates. We had great nice plates that had a great edge and nothing spilled out of. The new plates were smaller, didn’t have a good tilt, stuff spilled over the edge and they generally were annoying. But since they were a gift, they were our new plates we had to use from then on out. Our old great plates went someplace dark and sad. The new ones had to be used because they were a gift. They had to always be there to be seen as the ones we were using in case the gift giver showed up.

Such is the nature of gifts. Now where’s my box of eyes?

I watched the 3rd Season of Dark Matter this week.

While I liked the first 2 seasons I can understand why it was cancelled after the 3rd, but I drudged on to the end.

That’s always the worst when a show you love goes south in its final season, and then gets (deservedly?) cancelled. It’s hard to watch the decline of something once good.

I felt the same way about the Penny Dreadful TV series. I found the first two seasons mesmerizing, but the third was so awful, I couldn’t watch past the second or third episode. It was like they outsourced the writing … to chimps. :-)

Cheers!

Starting off with Warframe as always. New Ghoul event in the plains, return of the Acolytes, hunting for Somachord fragments for my new living quarters, gathering the last 2 pieces of Mirage Prime I need, etc. The list goes on. Too much to do in Warframe lol.

Steadily working on the rescue missions in Elite Dangerous. Dropping into a system where a massive space station has been turned into a smoldering hulk is very impressive. The visuals and sound work done are all top notch. Really makes me feel like I’m witnessing the aftermath of an alien attack. After months of lackluster recycled content, the game is finally shaping up.

I passed on the new Type 10 mainly because I already have a Corvette and just don’t need another large combat ship. Will wait for the Chieftan and Krait coming next year. It is an impressive ship though. Anyone who likes the T9 should absolutely look into getting a T10.

Picked up a few games from the Steam sale. Got Prey and Stellaris and will probably start off with Prey. Heard it was a trip so I’m quite looking forward to that. I’m still debating on whether or not I want to pick up The Division.

Won’t be this weekend exactly, but come Monday morning I’ll be jumping back to FFXIV. I have the Stormblood expansion all ready to go but decided to save it for Christmas day. Some Final Fantasy while I eat junk food all day sounds like a lovely way to spend the holidays haha. I’ll get back to working out and eating properly after that. I promise…

Reader
Sorenthaz

Giving Fortnite a look again because I’ve finally caved in and conceded that the BR mode does look fun + I’ve been hearing good things about the Christmas event. PvE still seems overly grindy and the systems are still needlessly complicated, but they’re at least putting up heroes/weapons for direct purchase via an event currency separate from the llama tickets and you can now get items that upgrade heroes to higher rarities (i.e. Epic to Legendary) which is actually pretty significant and helps cover one of the big issues of the game (i.e. most of the heroes feel useless unless they’re Epic or Legendary and ultimately you want everything at Legendary/Mythic).

Other games-wise, Smite’s doing its yearly Saturnalia stuff so might as well take some time to poke around Smite again. SWL I might progress a bit further in on my Templar (currently level 13 and still in Kingsmouth), Killing Floor 2 I’ve been enjoying doing the dailies though their loot drop system is on a predictable timer to where I only do one match every 3ish hours. Heroes of the Storm I’ve been dipping back into because League of Legends’ preseason is straight-up cancer. Factorio with a friend prolly and I might be buying Ylands to give it a looksie to also purchase/play with said friend.

We don’t have any young children around the house for Christmas this year, so it’s not really that a big deal here. We’re mostly just going on with business as usual; except for the planning of a turkey dinner in a couple days.

My week has felt kind of like this video:

“Here I am minding my own business. Hey, that’s looks interesting, I wonder what’s going on here… Oh no… why did I look at this? I immediately regret this decision!”
____________________________________________________

I’m still playing the usual things: Destiny 2, SWTOR, sacrificing kittens to Gozer the Gozerian, Super Mario Odyssey, and some Civilization 6 whenever I feel like I have an extra 15 hours to waste. A friend also just won a PS4 at his office Christmas party and has been playing Persona 5, which has me feeling like I want to hop back in and plow through another chunk of that game.

I’m avoiding all the winter sales, despite some tasty deals out there. Elex, Fallout 4, A Hat In Time, and Sonic Forces are all tempting, but I’ve barely touched what I bought during the Black Friday sale; so unless I discover a gem that I absolutely must have, I’ll probably sit out any new game purchases for myself this year.

I hope everyone stays safe and warm (or cool if you’re down under), and enjoys whatever it is they’re doing this holiday season!

The great thing about SMO is that it’s so easily playable in 5 to 10 minute bits. You can pop a TV dinner in the microwave, fire Mario up and get something done, and still have to wait for your meal to finish cooking.

I’ll be playing more Destiny 2, The Division, and Fortnite. I have the PvE co-op mode of the latter now and I really like the building and world exploration aspects without the fear of someone ganking me.

I’m also looking through the Steam winter sale and trying to decide what to pick up. Right now it’s between Fallout 4, Skyrim, and the BioShock series; none of which I’ve played before.
