Secret World Legends is going to South Africa on April 4

No, it turns out that the Congo was never the intent of Funcom after all for Secret World Legends’ next jaunt, but South Africa instead. The studio announced today that it will be rolling out the first part of Season Two of the storyline next month on April 4th.

Called Dawn of the Morninglight, the update marks the first piece of truly new story content that Secret World Legends has produced since the game’s reboot from The Secret World last year. The free update will take players to South Africa where they will infiltrate a Morninglight compound called New Dawn and attempt to rise up from within the ranks. Along the way they’ll encounter beasts “inspired by South African folklore” and learn a few new truths about this sinister cult.

“This is it, this is the next chapter every Secret World player have been waiting for,” says Producer Josh Mills. “Ever since we left off in Tokyo before going free-to-play, players have been wanting to know what happens next. The whole team is really excited to finally be able to provide some answers to that and taking the story into a location such as South Africa has been an absolute blast. This is Secret World Legends unlike you’ve ever seen it before.”

Funcom needs to get this 110% right!

There was a lot of angst about the relaunch – and it turned out to be quite justified. I was largely in favour of it, but I can understand why it caused such consternation – and ultimately I’m still uncertain why it was necessary at all. I’ve not felt it was any different.

But the relaunch, alongside the subsequent total dearth of content other than rehashed holiday events gave rise to serious gripes.

Then the Agent system which seemed a) totally out of the blue and b) launched in such a horribly broken state and c) actually does nothing to enhance the gameplay experience cost Funcom a lot of the goodwill that was already ebbing away post relaunch. It seems there are some executives at Funcom who are pulling in different directions and are not well checked.

I’m hopeful of this – I truly am and I love the game and I’m rooting for it.

The problem is, I just don’t have confidence in Funcom not to make a complete and utter Horlicks of this and ruin the game for good.

Morninglight probably started packing for South Africa as soon as they heard about the Sun City resort.

Replying to you here:

Dude. Stop. Whatever you think about your anger, isn’t justified. Wait moderation and THEN you proceed to use the means to solve it. PM Bree or w/e.

People don’t need to show restraint when you’re not showing either. You’re taking respect for granted, when it isn’t. You’re clearly going off limits here, and that’s a lot. Just calm yourself and WAIT.

Hyped. Easy in the case of SWL but still hyped.

South Africa…

…It’s a third world country. Textiles, shepherds, cool outfits. All a front. Explorers have searched for it. Called it El Dorado. They looked for it in South America, but it was in Africa the whole time. I’m the only who’s seen it…

“Wrong IP, Uta!”

Oh! o.O

Hope it’s worth the wait and making us re-do everything with the re-release. Glad they decided to go somewhere not visited as often in western stories/entertainment, if nothing else that’s already scoring a few points right out of the gate.

They should put some new mechanics in the game with this update. I’m still thinking people will clear it too quickly. Either they bring those faster, or they put something to keep people busy. Fusang would be nice. Or a South African based battleground. Please, anything is better than Shambala.
