Monster Hunter’s film adaptation begins production this fall with Resident Evil pedigree

Monster Hunter World made Capcom gobs of money, and now the franchise is set to make even more as it comes to the big screen. Variety reports that Germany’s Constantin Film will begin production on a Monster Hunter flick this September. The movie stars Milla Jovovich and will be directed by Paul W. S. Anderson, who’s well-known for taking on ultra-violent scripts and video game adaptations. If you saw 2002’s Resident Evil – also a Capcom franchise – you already know what the two of them can do together in this space.

Online games are big business in the TV and movie industry in recent years, even for MMOs; readers will recall the Warcraft movie, of course, as well as the fact that Funcom is reportedly still working on a Secret World TV series with Johnny Depp’s production outfit onboard.

Well, this is going to suck. Too bad they couldn’t find a better director.

The thing is, it’ll probably never be as good as the Japanese live action commercials.

I adore Milla Jovovich she is always totally game for super physical roles and does most of her own stunts, she is a total badass and the fact she is gorgeous to boot certainly doesn’t hurt :P

Yay! Another crappy video game movie to continue the trend of crappy video game movies!

Honestly, most of the RE movies are pretty all right (except Nemesis and whatever the last one was) as long as you accept that they’re a totally separate canon from the games. They’re not, like, great, but they’re fun. And, at least IMO, they feature the exact same blend of self-seriousness-undermined-by-camp exemplified by the PlayStation games.

Too bad it’s not Paul Thomas Anderson making a Monster Hunter film. That would probably be more interesting.

I think this is the right approach to making a movie based on Monster Hunter. Do not take an overly serious or over budgeted approach to making this silly concept into more than it is.

If this actually comes out, I will probably watch this (not in theaters because I rarely do that for anything). I liked the Warcraft movie even though it was bad. I think it tried to hard to do big blockbuster style things with a goofy old game story (even if it took liberties here and there).

I don’t even know what a Monster Hunter movie should be about, but I assume there is going to be a big bad elder dragon threatening the world as we know it and Milla Jovovich and maybe a team will have to save the day. The End.

monster hunter is a game about a hunter fighting big things and crafting new armor, it was never known for having an amazing story

the only way i can see this movie being even remotely successful is if they got bear grylls to make a mockumentary about all the different wild life in monster hunter, explain how to survive them and how to make health potions and then put it on netflix
