PlanetSide 2 soon expanding PlayStation 4 beta to Europe

European PlayStation 4 players will soon have no reason to feel left out of the PlanetSide 2 fun, as Daybreak informed the community over the weekend that the console beta will soon include the region.

“Rest assured that as soon as we launch in EU we will send out a huge batch of codes to our EU players,” Executive Producer Clint Worley promised. He also mentioned that the team is hard at work addressing some issues players have had with beta key redemptions.

Worley said that the next beta patch will open up three new continents, add a tutorial continent, and apply “a massive amount of bug fixes and updates.” The patch will also trigger a full wipe, so be forewarned.

snafucit The reverse manuever was an unintended consequence of the original design.  Since this version won’t be cross compatible with the PC version, they’d be doing their players a favour by taking it out I think.

agemyth Walpurgisnacht I wasn’t expecting perfect controls, I was expected reasonable controls. No one asked them to go out and invent their own way to control an FPS. I expected them to copy existing console shooters like Battlefield 4 (with developers who actually know what they are doing), especially since SOE has absolutely no experience in this area. Instead, they decided on the most obtuse FPS control scheme that I have ever experienced and I guarantee you that this will turn A LOT of people off.

snafucit eLdritchMD I’ve tried mapping PS2’s flight controls to my PC gamepad. Emphasis on tried. The flight model in PS2 is good because it is not simple. Most PS2 players (myself included) cannot fly in combat without getting shot down by ace pilots or just crashing into trees and hills on their own.
I do not envy those tasked with making the infantry, vehicle, flight, AND interface controls of PS2 work on controllers anywhere near as well as they do on the PC version. There will be sacrifices.

Walpurgisnacht Yeah, this company releasing a beta without perfect controls. The nerve. This game built for PC should be so easy to wave their magical game-porting wands at to create a perfect beta that doesn’t even need player-input on anything.

Lazy devs.

eLdritchMD snafucit Normally I’d agree with ya, but PS2 has a very unique flight model compared to others. I just try to imagine trying to perform the same maneuvers with a controller as I do with a mouse and keyboard for PS2. I can’t be sure unless I try it out myself but I have a feeling the controller may struggle in comparison, but we shall see I guess.

Walpurgisnacht I find the PC controls kinda wonky so I can only imagine the mess it will be to try and use a controller.

Walpurgisnacht eLdritchMD snafucit I see. what a shame. I’m sure there’s a good sized audience for it on PS4.

eLdritchMD snafucit There have been many FPSes on consoles, some with flying and driving. However, SOE has not played any of those games and it really shows.

snafucit haven’t there been plenty of other games with flying on consoles? I mean maybe this is just me but I imagine the flying and driving of vehicles to be much less of a pain in the ass than the shooting.

Going to be interesting to see how people fly with the controllers. Has anyone tried to do a reverse maneuver with a controller and succeeded?
