Here’s how to hunt whales in Black Desert

Glub glub.

Would you like to hunt whales in Black Desert? No, not the big cash shop spenders, but actual whales in the ocean and stuff. Apparently you can, as shown in a video recently posted by Steparu.

He describes the whale hunt as “very relaxing and peaceful,” despite the chaos inherent in several player ships and nearly seven minutes of spells and gunfire before the beast is subdued. Click past the cut to have a look.

krieglich ihatevnecks Nope, still not the case.
Cruel? No. Disgusting? No. Boring? Maybe :)

ihatevnecks In none of the mentioned mmos are any of the humanoids defenseless, they ALL can fight back (or in most cases attack FIRST). Don’t start arguments like lower level or equip, that’s not the point! The point is the killing of an animal that’s in no way a threat to the attackers. Not in the lore, not in a quest, not in a fight. You know exactly what I mean. It’s a cruel, disgusting video, no matter what else can be done in this or any other mmo.

krieglich ihatevnecks EQ, EQ2, DAoC, WoW. All feature mechanics where mobs, humanoid and otherwise, try to flee when their HP is low. This applies to both aggro and non-aggro mobs :) Invaders? Goblin and orc caves in EQ, kobold caves and arakkoa villages in WoW. What do these have in common? Home turf of humanoids that YOU’RE invading, not vice versa. You’re the one making silly arguments here, not me :)
Talking about the whale? No, you were talking about the humanoids. I replied to comments about humanoids. Keep up, you were the one who mentioned humanoids first, and that’s what I responded to.

ihatevnecks Show me ONE MMO where a humanoid is running away without coming back to finish his job. I don’t attack *non-aggressive* mob, plain simple. And in most MMOs you attack invaders, so your “home turf” argument is silly.

“Them not being defenseless is also pretty untrue, especially when you start looking at level/equipment disparities.”
*?* I was talking about the whale. Look at the video. The whale is defenseless.

It would be cool if a group of players banded together to create a virtual Sea Shepard organization with the purpose of stopping the whalers lol

What a lush desert.
What a… non whale like whale.  *Seriously, it doesn’t even dive more than a few feet under?*
This looks like a dull, boring grind to kill something with no challenge.  Seriously, reduce the HP on that in a case like this.  Minutes to hunt something by shooting it hundreds of times just looks boring.
Oh well, guess I can add this to reasons not to play this one.

Possibly because you intuit that whales are far closer to permanent extinction, and that a game activity which effectively celebrates the hunting process which contributes to that extinction feels a little … off.
And before anybody drags out the “tree hugger” or SJW insults regarding my opinions — my family has a number of hunters in it. One of the things real, responsible hunters are taught (at least in my family) is an awareness of, and a responsibility for, natural conservation. You do not hunt endangered creatures; you do not damage the ecosystem.

Whaling in real life is not properly hunting anyway — it’s a corporatized for-profit venture. As such, there’s a real and ongoing risk that certain whale species will become extinct, simply because the profit factor means these whales are being harvested faster than the herds can naturally replenish.
Some whaling nations respect the needs of the herds, but too many do not. When you add in private whaling interests who value profit over all, the push toward extinction picks up speed

This is what I know. Other posters can certainly disagree as they like, but I will not argue. If someone feels the need to argue on the internet, I’m sure they’ll have planty of other condidates available. I will ignore such pointless endeavors.

ClassicCrime usagizero Damonvile We shouldn’t discriminate based on how cute or ugly a creature looks.  Different MMOs with different art styles are like different ethnic groups of humans; you discriminate against some groups are being socially irresponsible.

I’d say that everything that’s killable in all MMO’s should be killed, or at least attempted to kill, regardless of their look.
