LotRO producer’s letter talks Minas Tirith, new PvMP content, and more

Jackson's Minas Tirith

Turbine executive producer Athena Peters has posted a new producer’s letter on the Lord of the Rings Online forums. In it, she outlines the firm’s plans for the remainder of 2015, including “major content initiatives” and “major service upgrades” for the long-running Tolkien MMO.

There’s a new PvMP map in the works (yes, you read that right); it’s designed to feature Osgiliath and it should be released later this summer. There’s a new episodic quest coming, too, with weekly updates slated to follow hobbit Bingo Boffin “as he traverses Middle-earth.” Minas Tirith also gets a mention, but Peters remains coy on the specifics other than hinting at a “surprising take on the siege of Gondor.”

In terms of service upgrades, look for a new storefront, new servers and datacenters, and an improved server transfer service before the end of the year.

gizmomybizmo They’ve confirmed they’re actually working on it right now though, not just ‘planning’ to get one out.

Slaphammer It’s available at any time. It’s like a tv series – you can watch any time later, but need to wait for each part if you keep up with it.

Sounds like a good update . The pvp does need some love in the game . I would prefer to see them doing some pvp scenarios though . Given there is no news of another Tolkien based mmo yet I would think Lotro has a good few more years to go but its content is finite because it follows the book so I cant imagine it being about in say another decades time . Unless of course they decide to follow some of the events Tolkien mentions after Lord of the Rings the wars with the Easterlings and Haradrim and the battle on the sea of Nurnen .

It probably will ( and should ) end with Moria though .

Slaphammer  As you progress through the game you follow a side story of Lord of the Rings so I highly doubt the episodic content would be available for a limited time . The episodes are much like this issues in TSW its more that Turbine have decided to do smaller regular content updates than do expansions for the moment . I’m sure they have an expansion planned for Mordor though .

This is good news. That Turbine is investing in LOTRO is a reassuring sign it has a longer future enough to invest time and attachment to  toon development. I’m glad I still play now and again.

What’s this episodic content?  Does it remain available forever so you can do it anytime, or do you have to keep up with each part or else miss out? Maybe they already have something like this in game, but it’s not ringing any bells….

Maybe if they’d fix the sound so it doesn’t cause my motherboard sound to crackle and pop, like no other game does, so I could play it without the sound being muted….. I’d be interested in their new content. :)

I’ve heard them claim to be making a new pvmp map now for what? Better part of a damn decade? I don’t believe a damn thing turbine says anymore about pvmp. I gave up on it years ago, despite how much I enjoyed it at times.

I haven’t touched PvMP since 2013, and am excited to see the re-balancing changes they confirmed will take place.
I’m most interested to see how they will address macro target forwarding for multi-boxers. Its the main reason I don’t bother with pvmp right now, and i hope it gets addressed.

I’m curious to see if the performance will increase with new servers and data centers.
