That Wizards of the Coast vs. HEX lawsuit has finally been settled

Good news, virtual card game fans! That long-running lawsuit between Hex Entertainment, Cryptozooic, and Wizards of the Coast is finally out of the way. If you’d forgotten all about the lawsuit, it was all about the fact that Wizards felt HEX: Shards of Fate bore some… resemblance to WotC’s long-running card game Magic: the Gathering. Which side you were rooting for depended a great deal on which game you liked to play.

But there’s no need to worry about it any longer because the parties involved have reached a settlement with undisclosed terms. Peace has been made, and players can continue slinging cardboard both real and virtual with impunity. Good news all around.

kofteburger I’m sure they’re happy to get anything at all out of it… I mean let’s be honest a lawsuit like this is really just a fancy form of extortion.

DasBenty Don’t worry, the pace of development has been so glacial that I doubt you’ve missed anything.

crawlkill In most competitive genre spaces there’s room for one Big Game and a couple of Smaller Games. With TCGs the Big Game is Hearthstone; Hex and the Magic one can probably do okay. Guild Wars did alright next to WoW, after all.

Cambruin Probably because HotS is simple and works on pure nostalgia from the characters.
Also, it’s comeback mechanics and non-selfish way of gaming actually gives you a feel of true teamwork.
Faker won’t carry anyone with Raynor.

Dystopiq ….It wouldn’t surprise me.
“STOP MAKING YOUR GAME LOOK SO MUCH LIKE OURS”
“No”
*repeats over and over until court*
“Fine fine we’ll stop.”
“Okay. Lets play a game so you can prove it”
“AWWW YEHHHH1”

crawlkill Personally hearth stone was the game that got me to breach out and try other online TCG’s. I settled on Infinity Wars on steam as my final home, but it really got me the urge to play something that wasn’t p2w as all hell >.<
