WRUP: Talk to your children about the X-Files edition

The world moves ever onward, and pretty soon you’re going to need to think about how you’re going to discuss The X-Files with your children. There’s a temptation to shirk the responsibility, but if your kids don’t hear it from you, they’ll hear it from your drunken sibling at Thanksgiving.

Sit your child down and explain that when a man whose name rhymes with “Fish Smarter” loves the US government very much but also hates the US government very much, sometimes he proposes a show to a network willing to take a chance on crazy crap. Tell them that sometimes it turns out that the lead actors have a lot of chemistry despite the overarching plot being nonsense, and try to make it clear that the show existed at a time when people felt as if the United States had so few remaining enemies that it had to fight itself, like a prize fighter punching a mirror.

You can let us know when you’ll talk about this with your children down in the comments, or you can just take part in What Are You Playing. Or you can explain to us why Gillian Anderson looks even more gorgeous now than she did then while David Duchovny is slowly aging into an ambulatory thumb. That’s the real unsolved case for you.

Andrew Ross (@dengarsw): I think I’ll be hitting Tokyo for a day trip, which means playing Hyrule Warriors: Legends on trains. Maybe some Hearthstone too. I have a feeling Overwatch is gonna suck up my social gaming time so… I feel like I should do something before that happens. Maybe finally try ARK: Survival Evolved, or Worlds Adrift‘s builder, or Landmark, or maybe bases in Planetside 2, or Atlas Reactor before they ask for my money…

Brianna Royce (@nbrianna, blog): I’ve been modding up my Elder Scrolls games, so I’m probably going to play through a quest mod or two this weekend. I’ve also got Diablo III and Marvel Heroes and Trove waiting on me, and maybe I’ll get to take a look at the Worlds Adrift builder this weekend. Maybe!

Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): There’s a whole event going on in Final Fantasy XI, encouraging people to do some stuff that I need to get done on my main character anyway. Aside from dungeon runs and such on Final Fantasy XIV, that’ll probably eat up most of my time. I’m coming for the Naakuals, I tell you what.

Justin Olivetti (@Sypster, blog): All of the recent Star Trek Online announcements have drawn me back into the game big-time, so I’m probably going to be working on leveling up my baby captain as much as possible. I also have a couple of projects in The Secret World and World of Warcraft that need addressing.

MJ Guthrie (@MJ_Guthrie, blog): I plan on spending lots of time in ARK: Survival Evolved playing with my dinos and plotting my plans for life after our server wipe. I also intend to do some Path of Exile; I must find my way through that labyrinth! I’ll also be in The Secret World cavorting with conspiracies and in Black Desert Online fishing and farming a bit.

Pierre, patron: Same as last week: The Elder Scrolls Online and Final Fantasy XI. I’m also discovering the Metal Gear Solid series of games that I didn’t have the opportunity to play until now; I’m starting with the first three.

Thatchefdude, patron: I’m going to start my second playthrough of Uncharted 4, either on hard or crushing mode (I really want that Crushing trophy). That’s pretty much it for this weekend: Uncharted 4 all day, multiplayer if I need some more excitement…

Your turn!
