WRUP: The loss edition

I consider myself something like a Priest.

We all lose things over the course of our lives. Some things are small, almost incidental – pieces of paper, movies, favored dishes, keys, and the like. Others are more important – organs, limbs, eyesight, hearing. And then there are the losses we experience that are less physical but no less acute, like the loss that it seems most of us must go through, that moment when we realize that we are not the hero.

In our minds, we are the protagonists of our own stories, always. But being the protagonist is not the same as being the hero. At some point in maturation, we realize that we are not the hero of our own story, that we may not in fact be the hero of anyone‘s story. We are simply individuals playing our part in a tapestry stretching far beyond us in either direction. Simply acting in our own best interests does not make us heroes, it makes us neutral at best and a villain at worst.

In short, there comes a time when you realize that what separates us from those we find distasteful is merely our tricks of perception. Anyway, What Are You Playing is down below, let us know what you’re up to.

Andrew Ross (@dengarsw): Just managed to get Pokémon Go Plus, so I plan on trying to figure out both the functional and social ins and outs of the device. Speaking of social, I may actually spend some time playing Dungeons & Dragons in meat space. My brother’s friends were talking about setting up something simple and I got an invite. We’ll see what happens.

Brianna Royce (@nbrianna, blog): I might get in a little gaming this weekend, but I’m also headed to a mini-meet with some guildies who are in town for work, so that’ll be fun! Mostly I’m prepping for the big Guild Wars 2 drop next week!

Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): I’ve gotten my first two characters in World of Warcraft up to 110, so it’s time to figure out who’s third in line. There are many, many possibilities. Otherwise, I’ll be doing some Final Fantasy XIV housekeeping and heading off to a variety of entertaining concerts through the weekend.

Justin Olivetti (@Sypster, blog): I’m gamely working toward gearing up in RIFT so that my Cleric isn’t an embarrassment to Cleric-kind. I should also hit level 110 in World of Warcraft, finally, which puts me at a world first. Right? Right?
