That time when Riders of Icarus added a level 50 dungeon to a level 40 game

Here’s a fun experiment that Riders of Icarus recently performed: Insert a level 50 dungeon with highly desirable rewards into a game with a level cap of 40 and see what happens. As you might expect, you’re going to end up with players throwing themselves into the souped-up meat grinder again in again in the hopes of obtaining that special gear.

In a new development blog, the team admits that legendary dungeons were added in preparation for when the game increases its level cap to 50 this month. Apparently the devs wanted to test and fine-tune the difficulty and rewards while players were still underleveled so that it wouldn’t be a disappointment later on.

However, the devs admit that maybe they weren’t great at communicating this as their intent when legendary dungeons went live back in October. Riders of Icarus will be making some significant changes to these instances, including increasing the drop rate for the special gear and lowering the difficulty of some of its mobs.
