The Daybreak Games team behind Z1 Battle Royale announced today that Software Engineer David Avram has sadly passed away. His passing comes only four months after the loss of another Daybreak developer, Lead Animator David “Sarge” Carter.
Avram’s fellow developers have taken to Twitter to mourn and remember their colleague and friend. Twitch’s Jimmy Whisenhunt writes, “[Avram] was a huge part of the glue that kept the team sane. He was a good friend, great engineer and just a fantastic human.”
Former Daybreak CEO John Smedley also took the time to remember Avram. “David Avram was a great teammate and did fantastic work on H1Z1. I will miss his sense of humor and dedication to doing things right the first time. Till we meet again Dave,” he said in a Tweet.
Our deepest condolences go out to Avram’s family, friends, and colleagues.

Received word that @Dave1Z1 passed away last night. H1 wouldn’t have been the same without him. So drive down the Avram Highway in @Z1BattleRoyale today and keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.
We’ll miss you, Dave, but I know you’re making the angels smile
