Submarines are slinking their way into World of Warships

All of the threats in the oceans of World of Warships have been on the surface of the water. If you’re being damaged, it’s probably that battleship firing its broadside at you over there to the west. Soon, though, players of the multiplayer vehicular combat title will have to worry about what’s beneath the waves as submarines have been confirmed to be on the way.

Just as submarines changed the face of naval warfare, submarines in World of Warships will be changing a variety of things to how the game is played. The update also comes with a number of challenges for the devs at Wargaming according to a quote from executive producer Artur Plociennik.

“The uniqueness of submarines poses very interesting design challenges for our team, which we hope to be able to turn into novel new gameplay tactics for our players and to make online naval combat more exciting than ever before. We are always looking for new ways to make our audience happy and we’re aiming to fulfill every player’s fantasy of WW2 submarine operations.”

Specifics on this much-requested class of naval vessel are not available at this time, but players can expect closed testing to begin in a couple of weeks for those who are participating in the World of Warships Supertest with four playable vessels from the US Navy and German Kriegsmarine. The press release we received states that more information will come at this year’s Gamescom and urges fans to keep eyes on official channels as the dev team navigates its way through the murky depths to making submarine gameplay work.

As for how things operate in-game now, be sure to check out our most recent impressions for those who are perhaps suffering from MMO Burnout.
