Fallen Earth begins its Last Stand

After a slight delay due to patcher issues, Fallen Earth’s 10th anniversary — and its final hurrah in its current incarnation — has begun.

Little Orbit announced that the post-apocalyptic MMO’s “Last Stand” event will commence today and run until the very last day of the game’s lifespan. That’s October 14th, if you want to mark your calendars for a somber occasion. Until then, however, players can take on an unexpected challenge that’s popped up at Embry Crossroads.

“The end has come, and in true wastelander fashion, some of you have already taken up posts, organized your last watch, and prepared your homes for a long break,” the devs said. “After 10 years, it’s time to say goodbye with a party. Put on your finest, bring some cheap moonshine or a pristine Cuban cigar, and join us to celebrate. There’s just one problem. We have a very large uninvited guest, and it’s threatening to ruin all the fun.”

Well… what are you waiting for? Go take care of it!

I’m so glad this has gone live. There was a real fear that issues with the updater would drag on until a “sorry, we tried but…” post confirmed the original offline date of 2nd October would remain. There was a palpable air of relief last night in global chat when this was confirmed.

Personally, while I’m looking forward to dipping into the event I’m even more glad of a further 12 days in which to try – for the first time – to reach level 55. It’s going to be close, but I’m really enjoying my final tour of Fallen Earth.

Final, at least until it respawns in a GlobalTech cloning chamber.

It’s a shame when a game shuts down, but if it has to happen one last blowout is the best way to do it.

Someone should invest $10-30M into Little Orbit. APB and Fallen Earth shouldn’t go gentle into that good night, like it happened to Marvel Heroes.

calling the death of Marvel Heroes “gentle” is probably a good contender for understatement of the year

May it rise again from the radioactive ashes of its old code.
