The Daily Grind: What’s the worst MMO game mechanic ever?

Weeks ago, I saw a thread on the MMORPG subreddit about the worst mechanics in MMOs. I clicked on the link, scoffing, thinking surely this thread couldn’t top some of the awful mechanics I’ve seen. And then the OP described an MMO where players lose levels for dying in PvP, and you know, I gotta hand it to him: Losing experience on death is most definitely one of the worst MMO mechanics out there. Easily a top 10 for me. I hated it years ago in the earliest MMOs, and I hate it now.

I could add more to that list. Most static, repetitive dailies suck. Spawn camping, no thanks. Waiting excessively for basic travel. Losing your damn corpse and having to beg other players for help getting it back lest you lose your gear. Houses that stay in the world taking up space for years after you’ve quit. Uggg.

What would you say is the worst MMO game mechanic ever?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
