Yes, yes, I know all of the jokes, World of Warcraft general chat is vile enough to be used as a biotoxin and all of that. Heck, I was there when the jokes were being written. The thing is that the jokes are also not entirely accurate. Sure, it could be bad, but I’ve seen some pretty terrible general chat in a lot of different MMOs thanks to, you know, playing a lot of different MMOs. And as bad as some parts of WoW could be, I don’t know if I’d necessarily call them the worst I’ve seen.
The reality is that having a chat channel with everyone included and no requirements for participation can leave to some loud people with low standards making the whole thing a toxic cesspit for everyone involved very quickly. But today, I’m curious to hear about your own horror stories and moments when you were tempted to just mute the chat so you’d never have to interact with these people ever again.
