You band together with other players, you go out into a dungeon, you kill a boss, and you take the stuff that boss drops. But you want a specific thing from that boss, and it doesn’t drop on that first run. Or the next run. Or the next several dozen runs. Or when you go back to farm it at a higher level after an expansion comes out. Or the next several dozen attempts. Over and over, you hack at this boss and try to grab the thing you want, only to find yourself continually stymied and not getting the thing you want.
Maybe it’s an appearance that would complete a look. Maybe it’s a pet or a mount. Maybe it’s just something you wanted at one point for power but now, now it’s a vendetta where you are going to get that drop no matter what.
