You probably know this if you’ve been here long enough, but there was a time when I was known as “the City of Heroes guy” instead of “the Final Fantasy XIV guy.” CoH was important to me. It was a popular game I covered for a long while and covered well, and when it unexpectedly shut down I was gutted. Like, seriously, there were times writing about its closure that very literally made me cry. It was deeply emotional for me in a way that no other shutdown has ever quite matched, although WildStar came close.
Of course, we all have different games we love, and sometimes the ones that we like wind up not making the impact we thought when they have to wave goodbye. So what was the MMO shutdown that hurt you the most? Disregarding any later rogue servers and the like, when has a shutdown notice really emotionally impacted you?
