The Daily Grind: How do you motivate yourself to clear MMO hurdles?

Don’t you hate that feeling in an MMO when your progress suddenly hits a wall? Maybe you simply can’t beat the next bit of content, or you find yourself in a mandatory grind, or your will to play is drained by a dreary zone?

This happens to me on occasion. Recently in LOTRO, I hit a wall in Gundabad when a particular area was so annoying to navigate (thanks to multiple tiers of verticality and an unhelpful map) that I noped out of it for a while. But then I kicked myself in the pants and vowed to clear that zone one quest at a time even if I had to grit my teeth while doing it. Before long, I had forward momentum once again — and I was less frustrated.

When you hit a hurdle or start to stagnate in an MMO, how do you motivate yourself to clear that obstacle and keep moving forward?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
