The Daily Grind: What’s an MMO setting you consider yourself very invested in?

Have a thing.

I’ve mentioned before in various contexts that I don’t really have a strong emotional attachment to Middle-earth, but I can’t really fault the people who are invested in the setting. People have spent more time learning about this world than a lot of people have spent learning state capitals, after all. So if you’re very invested in Lord of the Rings Online for various reasons, well, hey, that really tracks. Can’t blame you and I get it, even if I don’t necessarily share it.

Not that you need to have a setting that particularly august for people to get invested in it; after all, it’s entirely possible for fans to have a nearly 30-year investment in the setting of World of Warcraft at this point, and while you have to be willing to elide a bunch of retcons that is perhaps understandable. Or you might be personally bewitched by Tyria as a setting and really care about the lore contained therein. Whatever the setting, what’s one you consider yourself to be very invested in?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
