MassivelyOP’s 2022 MMO Lifetime Achievement Award

Welcome back to the Massively Overpowered’s formal end-of-the-year awards for one more special award. Readers will remember that last year, we decided to institute a lifetime achievement award specifically to honor an MMORPG that has made a significant contribution to the genre over the course of its lifetime and the genre’s history but may not be recognized within the confines of our regular awards.

Last year’s recipient was EVE Online. This year’s lifetime achievement award goes to none other than the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV, which has a free trial and includes the entirety of A Realm Reborn and the award-winning Heavensward expansion up to level 60 with no restrictions on playtime. It’s hundreds of hours of free content!

In all seriousness, Final Fantasy XIV is an icon in the MMORPG industry and has spent the last several years at the tippy top of the MMO charts in the west. It’s won MMO of the Year from us five out of the last 10 years, which is nuts. Even in a year with no expansion, it manages to give the genre’s behemoth a run for its money and keeps Square-Enix afloat. We love it around here, and so do our readers. It’s a worthy recipient!

Congrats to all of our winners in 2022!
