The Daily Grind: What terrible MMO story moment will never leave your mind?

Forceful.

I know I can almost always make Bree giggle by talking about how my father trifles with doors. It’s a Guild Wars thing. And yes, that line was kind of awful, a lot of the original story in the game wasn’t great, but I still love it and will never forget it. But part of this job means that I will never forget the showdown in Astellia that was supposed to look cool and actually looked like two models in lingerie waving their hands on a greenscreen set, or just the absolute morass of strange line delivery at the start of Blade & Soul.

There are thousands of stories that are not great but not bad enough to be memorable, often from MMOs that fall into that exact same middle space (hi, Elyon, but also bye). What I wonder about here are the utterly awful story beats, potentially even in games with overall good stories, that are so memorable precisely because they’re bizarre, bad, and just wonky. So what terrible MMO story moment will never leave your mind?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
