So… Aion Classic’s path to a European release has been a bit of a mess, and I can only imagine some producer at Gameforge tearing her hair out over this, but yes, the launch has been delayed – again.
Readers will recall that the game was originally meant to launch in the first quarter of the year, but the devs had surfaced mid-March to admit that wasn’t going happen, largely because of excess illness (COVID and flu) among the staff and the need for further polish. Then, at the end of March, the studio triumphantly declared that it had surmounted those issues and that the formal date would be April 12th.
Now, April 12th isn’t happening either as Gameforge says it “encountered some technical difficulties during the process.”
“Our team is hard at work to fix the remaining issues as fast as possible, as well as preparing the launch of AION Classic. But to ensure this will be a great experience, we’ve decided to postpone the release of Classic to the 25th of April. We understand game delays are always frustrating, especially since many of you, much like us, are already very excited for next week. But as much as we wanted to stick to the previously announced date, we still haven’t reached the level we want to achieve for a smooth game launch. Our top priority is to ensure you will have the best experience possible. This short delay will allow us to apply the necessary measures based on our learnings from the Live migration, which we think will greatly improve the release of Classic.”
Readers will recall that the Classic version of the game has already run in North America since 2021 and in South Korea since 2020 – and brought in stacks of money for IP owner NCsoft.
