The Daily Grind: Have you ever been tempted to cheat in an MMO?

I vant you to keel tunnel moose.

Look, I’m not asking if any of you have cheated. Everyone whose opinion counts here is too much of a decent person to actually do so. But that’s not the same thing as being tempted to cheat. Sometimes it’s right there, and it feels so tempting to just… download the cheat. Come on. How bad could it really be, right? Neglecting the fact that any time you ask yourself that question you already know the answer is “bad.”

Personally, there were times when Final Fantasy XI made cheating feel sorely tempting. The game was just so slow and I only had so much time and it was such a pain in the rear to actually get a leveling party on any type of DPS. Cheating became just this seductive option in the back of my mind. It wouldn’t be hard. You’re so close. What’s a little bit of (whatever cheat I was considering) between friends?

Of course I never actually did it. But the temptation was there. So have you ever been tempted to cheat in an MMO? And what made you reconsider?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
