To me, ArcheAge will forever be the first of many South Korean games that was heralded as bringing back the mythical prelapsarian days of MMOs when everything was perfect and the games were all good and we all loved the cubus. Working in this field may have given me a terminal case of brain worms; I don’t know any more. But I’m not exactly thrilled to see rumors that it might shutter. The rumors have of course been (mostly) denied, but it’s still not something I am hype to see.

Even without that rumor, however, it’s safe to say that the game definitely did not serve as a major hit when it launched. While the sequel is still on its way, I think the animating impetus to assume that it will bring food and water and smite our enemies has kind of died down by now. So do you have hope for ArcheAge or its sequel? Do you think the game or its immediate sequel will actually make a big impact on the MMO space once again? Or do you feel like it’s just kind of marking time now?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
