If we take all of the magical characters in MMOs and look at ways to differentiate them, one dividing point might arise when you look at how “pure” of a wizard they are. After all, some classes are laser-focused on being super-duper-magical, with a vocabulary that starts with fireballs, dots eyes with ice blasts, and punctuates with electrical bolts. Their major tends to be in a single element, and their DPS is so much higher than yours.
Then there are the magic users that like to diversify their portfolio. Sure, they might summon totems, throw down magical auras, create shields, and consecrate the ground with glowing Velveta cheese cracks, but they also moonlight in hand-to-hand combat, or other types of magic, or other fields of study.
So if you had to pick between these, which appeals more to you? The pure mages or the hybrids?
