City of Heroes Homecoming kicks off Spring Fling event, upgrades SQL server to handle player load

Even heroes celebrate Valentine’s Day, apparently: City of Heroes Homecoming has officially launched its V-day-themed Spring Fling event as of last night. It doesn’t look as if there’s anything brand-new to the event in 2024; players must head to Pocket D to pick up the missions, which award multiple badges and titles as well as temp powers. There are themed tip missions dropping too if you’re feeling like delivering valentines to NPCs. Or misdelivering, as the Wiki reminds me.

The event went live after a significant downtime for the game yesterday that allowed the volunteer developer team to move Excelsior – the largest of the five production shards – to a new SQL server that will hopefully alleviate the heavy population load.

Do note that the team has rearranged the experience boosts intended to manage the populations on the servers; Everlasting and Excelsior both now have no experience boost, while Torchbearer maintains a 50% boost. Indomitable and Reunion are still at 100% experience boost, which when coupled with the 100% from the in-game booster makes for a 300% experience buff – not too shabby.
