Nintendo has upped the ante in the Mario Party series for online fans: At last night’s Nintendo Direct, the company announced the next Mario Party title, Super Mario Party Jamboree.
Readers might know that Super Mario Party took the series online in early 2021 and ended the year with Mario Party Superstars, the first game in the series built around support for online play. Not only is Nintendo continuing with that plan for Super Mario Party Jamboree, but the game will also include a 20-player online party mode – Koopathlon – when it rolls out on October 17th, 2024.
The details are scant so far, but we did see what looked like a starting lobby and 16 players slowly dropping out of a match where Bowser marches towards the crowd as the ground crumbles into a river of magma. We’ll see just how this mode operates in the coming months up to release.
You may also notice that some parts of the entire trailer have 6 or 8 players on screen, which could also be related to couch co-op. Again, though, Nintendo is playing things close to the chest right now and doesn’t even have an official page for the game up yet. Here’s hoping the next party isn’t just bigger but also better!
