Lord of the Rings Online’s new server might banish you from its Nazgul world boss fights

What would it be like if an MMORPG created a huge world boss fight… and then kicked you out for daring to show up? That’s a possible scenario for Lord of the Rings Online’s Nazgul encounters on the new Angmar and Mordor servers, as SSG said that the legendary worlds can’t handle too too many players.

In a post on the forums, the studio explained that while the Nazgul will begin “banishing” attendees from the fight when the player count crosses 50, everyone — banished or not — who showed up will be rewarded for a successful victory.

“So, unsurprisingly, when a Nazgul appears during peak hours, it tends to get pretty mobbed and while our new servers are performing very well, 300+ players in a small area will still tend to stress them out, as some of you no doubt noticed last night,” SSG says. “Once the player count in its immediate vicinity exceeds ~50 players, the Nazgul will begin banishing nearby players, this is mainly to help maintain performance, as well as keeping the fight challenging. The Nazgul will only banish those that have already been marked by it, which will generally occur within a minute of your character engaging in the fight — once you are marked, you’ll be rewarded if the Nazgul is defeated no matter where you are in the world. But only if it is defeated!”
