Conan Exiles Age of Heroes adds a dynamic needs system to your army of thralls

Wait, that came out wrong

Funcom has dropped a new dev blog on Conan Exiles’ Age of Heroes release, and it’s all about thralls – you know, your NPC minions. Age of Heroes includes new mechanics that basically allow you to “breathe new life” into your settlements, especially for thralls.

“Prior to this feature, your workers were mere items at their assigned workstations. With Living Settlements their new life is about to begin as they will be freed from their restraints,” Funcom says. Essentially, thralls will have their own needs system that will at least look like independent, dynamic behavior to those of us in meatspace. So when they’re hungry, they’ll go looking for places to eat. When they’re exhausted, they demand a bed – so you’d better have one for them. They’ll also know whether to flee or fight when your base is under attack.

Likewise, “Workers are no longer items you place in a slot on workstations,” says studio. “Once they join you or your clan and live on your base, they’ll apply available bonuses and recipes to all stations relevant to their profession and tier within a 140m radius (about 54 foundation blocks).”

Finally… who wants to play dress-up? All of us, right?

“Your workers deserve more than potato sacks and fiber wraps as they do the heavy lifting around your base. With Living Settlements, we are also unlocking a long-awaited feature requested by our community: to dress up your workers! As well as any fighter before, workers will now have equipment slots where you can change their clothing and weapons. Style them according to their profession, or not! It’s up to you how you want them to dress for the occasion.”
