SAG-AFTRA union agrees to resume negotiations with game companies, but strikes and picketing continue

Video game voice over artists who are members of the SAG-AFTRA union have been on strike against game companies since July as game studios refused to provide protections for using actors’ performances to train their AI models. It looks as if the union is ready to try to cut a deal once more, as it has announced it will resume negotiations on Wednesday, October 23rd.

The meeting will involve the union and members of a representative convenience bargaining group that covers companies like Electronic Arts, Activision, WB Games, and more. No other comments were made from either party at the time of the announcement, but SAG-AFTRA did issue a statement to GamesIndustry that confirmed strikes will continue, as will a planned picket line at WB Games today. This is the second time union members have picketed a major game studio; last week saw members form a line at an Electronic Arts office in Los Angeles, CA.
