Death threats against Square-Enix management employees force the company to cancel tournaments in Japan

There seems to be a rather alarming trend of people threatening horrible things to employees of Square-Enix. Hot on the heels of threats made against the company earlier this month, there’s now a new report of death threats made against management employees for the Japanese mecha arcade game Starwing Paradox; these threats were so severe that a series of tournaments for the game have been cancelled.

According to a statement from the company, these threats were reported to the authorities and the company is fully cooperating with the police to investigate the matter. As a safety precaution, however, events scheduled for this weekend and next weekend in Tokyo, Yokohama, Nagoya, and Fukuoka have been cancelled.

As alluded to before, this is the most recent such threat made against the game studio just this year. Prior reports have seen people in Japan threaten to kill SE employees over a gacha game or commit arson on the same level as a recent arson attack on anime studio Kyoto Animation over a mobile game.
