Expect everyone in the gaming world to be a bit console-crazy this week — and console-insane come November. Not only is Microsoft launching the Xbox Series X on November 10th, but now we know that Sony is releasing the PlayStation 5 two days later on November 12th.

Sony’s PlayStation 5 will come in two editions: a $500 standard edition and a $400 digital edition that lacks a disc drive. If you’re ready to take the plunge, there are several places from which you can pre-order the console right now, though Twitter has been buzzing all night and morning about the sold-out status on major retailers who jumped the gun.

Polygon flat-out called the purchase frenzy “chaos.”

“Experience lightning-fast loading with an ultra-high speed SSD, deeper immersion with support for haptic feedback, adaptive triggers and 3D Audio, and an all-new generation of incredible PlayStation games,” the studio said.

The bright spot for MMO players, of course, was the revelation that the Final Fantasy series is getting a new entry, XVI, with XIV’s Naoki Yoshida producing, though we don’t know whether it’s an MMO proper just yet. In fact, at least one of the announcements offered last night – that it is coming to PC – has already been walked back.

Meanwhile over in virtual reality land, Facebook is discontinuing the Rift and Quest headsets in favor of the Oculus Quest 2. This headset is going to ship on October 13th and will be priced at $300 and $400 depending on how much memory you want packed into it.
