While I’m always up for trying out new MMOs and crossing my fingers that a future title will click with me, I do so with the calm assurance of knowing that I have my fallback MMORPGs to keep me occupied no matter what. I’ve grown very comfortable leaving and returning to certain game worlds over the years, knowing that when I depart, it’s only for a little while.
For me, the MMO that I’ve come back to the most is most definitely Lord of the Rings Online. The other day I was embarking on yet another new character’s journey and trying to analyze just what it is about this game that makes it such a welcoming experience when I come back to it. Familiarity and a deep sense of world is part of it, as is the sanguine pace and the tone.
