Completing a duty in Final Fantasy XIV plays the traditional series victory fanfare. It’s such a little thing, it doesn’t need to be in there, it doesn’t do anything or make the game good or anything like that. But to a long-time series fan who really loves that fanfare, it means a lot to hear that every time a duty is successfully completed as the last boss (possibly the only boss) slumps to the ground in defeat. It’s a little touch, but it makes me personally happy.
I don’t think I’m alone, either. Maybe in this particular bit of things that just make me happy, but not in the sense of having little touches that warm my heart. So what about you, dear readers? What little touches make you happy in an MMO? What relatively small elements just feel oddly satisfying to you no matter how irrelevant they might be to the overall quality of the MMO in question?
