We’ve certainly talked a lot in this space about the special joy that is coming back to an old favorite MMORPG and falling in love with it all over again. Sometimes, indeed, absence breeds fondness and allows for a renewed sense of adventure.

But there’s a darker flip-side to coming back to MMOs that perhaps we don’t acknowledge as much, which is when you return to find that the game you once loved is no longer that lovely. Maybe you’ve outgrown it, maybe too many changes have been made, or maybe the community that made it special has moved on to new hunting grounds.
