WRUP: The actual best parts of being a Star Wars fan edition

  • Watching a couple of the movies again is still fun if you can forget everything that happens afterwards.
  • You get to decide whether you would rather deal with a permanent reheating of tired tropes from the first three films or if you would rather be angry at the fact that in order to get that, things were removed from canon forever like Luke Skywalker’s Token Hot Redhead Girlfriend, Everyone Is A Jedi Now, Luuke Skywalker, and Master Soon Bayts. There is no middle ground.
  • It’s neat to find out which people get weirdly defensive about the idea that you can have a fantasy movie with space ships and robots, and also which people get weirdly aggressive about shouting if you ever call it science fiction. Life is hilarious!
  • Swinging toy lightsabers at your friends in the backyard is pretty fun well into your 40s although if you have any kids you probably shouldn’t let them watch, they will think you are even weirder than they already do.
  • You get half-price appetizers at Outback Steakhouse. No, really. It’s part of the secret menu. Doctor Who fans get a free alcoholic drink! I’m not making this up! Go right now and find out about it! But you have to be able to name at least two Daleks. For the Doctor Who thing, I mean. Not the Star Wars thing. Daleks aren’t in Star Wars. Yet.
  • R2D2 shows up at your house once a year to sing you to sleep. It’s kind of shrill and not conducive to sleeping, but bless his little coolant pump.
  • Sometimes I send Star Wars fans a much better What Are You Playing in the mail that involves my drawings of Luke and Han making out.

Bonus question: Rate your top three Star Wars films; you can do more if you want to, though. (Bree is a Star Wars fan.)

Andy McAdams: I’ve been really enjoying my first foray in Lord of the Rings Online, so I’ll probably continue that in and around the house work over the weekend.

Bonus Question: Ehm. I’m sure I’ll get told I’m wrong, but I enjoyed Revenge of the Sith because I like watching the fall of Anakin and the character trajectory. Outside of that, I’m obligated to say Rogue One, and I’d probably pick … Empire Strikes Back? I’d never really thought of them in terms of which I liked better, but I do really enjoy the whole battery of work.

Brianna Royce (@nbrianna, blog): have two things on deck: puttering in Lord of the Rings Online, where I finally started into Cardolan, and Star Wars Galaxies Legends, where I am trying to clean up my vendors a bit and decide whether I’d feel less stressed about the game if I reduced my crafting empire ambitions because I really can’t keep up with four crafts anymore, and I don’t need the money. But I’m afraid reducing my reasons to need to log in will also reduce my logging in, so. Hmm.

Empire Strikes Back, Rogue One, A New Hope. I’ll do a tier list in the comments because I think the best and worst are kinda obvious but the middle of the pack is more interesting.

Chris Neal (@wolfyseyes, blog): I think I’m going to take a bit of a break overall and try to focus on other hobbies and creative pursuits, to be perfectly honest. I am feeling extremely unmotivated in general these past few days and I think I need a break.

I liked The Last Jedi, Rogue One, and the Freemaker Adventures series. And I promise I’m not saying that to piss off what is arguably the angriest and unhappiest fan base in the entire world.

Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): I’ve got some games I need to review, so that will have the lion’s share of my time other than apartment set-up and a bit of Final Fantasy XIV time. It’s been a truly horrendous week for my anxiety and just in general, so I need some nice times this weekend.

The top three are easily The Last Jedi, The Empire Strikes Back, and A New Hope. And you know that I’m right, because as I have previously mentioned, I am a certified Worth Decider. Pity that after the best of the batch, Star Wars fans collectively proved to be such interminable whiners that they declared with one voice, “No, do not expand the universe, serve us reheated tripe from the original trilogy forever and ever.” And now I don’t care again.

Sam Kash (@thesamkash): I’m trying to get into Tower of Fantasy. I didn’t realize it was a mobile first title so that’s a bit of a let down. Although I’m actually digging it right now so I’m gonna to keep at that a bit. I’m also playing Star Realms on my phone and I’m really liking it too.

Bonus: I think I like finales. So I’ll go Return of the Jedi, Revenge of the Sith, and Rise of Skywalker.

Tyler Edwards (blog): My second honeymoon with New World continues. I’m fairly close to both finishing the season pass and getting my second character to level cap, though not so close that I’d expect to achieve either of those things this weekend.

Bonus question: The Last Jedi is the best Star Wars movie, and it’s not close. Force Awakens is a distant second. Empire Strikes Back an even more distant third. Rise of Skywalker is the worst.
