Lightphobe is a new early asymmetrical co-op shooter with unique light mechanics

Is 2024 the year when asymmetrical co-op shooters finally blow up? I dunno, but Lightphobe is hoping to be at the forefront when it foes. Mutant Realm Entertainment’s early access title is the product of a solo indie dev who actually seems to be using early access the way it was intended: as a springboard for ideas and development direction rather than a moneypit or a marketing gimmick.

“The overall gameplay in Lightphobe blends match-based shooters and zombie shooter games in a classic point capture mode setting; where both teams must race to capture an objective point,” the Steam page explains. “With only one team being able to capture the objective at any given time, Lightphobe is full of chaotic fun as both teams fight to establish their dominance!” The unique parts here, of course, are the Lightphobes themselves; whether run by players or AI, they are hindered and helped by the light and dark, and besides that, they look cool as heck. Imagine glowing skeleton kings and you’re there.

According to Steam, there’s no hard date for launch; the developer suggests one year as a loose estimate.
