The Daily Grind: How detailed should MMORPG character creation sliders be?

A few weeks back, there was a fabulous thread on Twitter that dug deeply into the concept of character creation in video games, specifically character sliders. And this morning, I want to talk about how detailed is too detailed.

See, I am one of those people who loves character creation. I will totally spend lots of time really seeing what I can do.

AND YET. I’m not a huge fan of endless sliders. I’ll admit it. I think most of the time, they are gratuitous. Nobody needs a slider for nose tip. Come on. What usually happens is we just make really ugly people with these kinds of sliders. I want tons of really good presets and accessories and colors, but not so much with a slider for the labial tubercle, please.

How detailed is too detailed when it comes comes to MMO character creation?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
