Skyforge’s guilds will offer stat bonuses, sub-guilds, and housing

From the sound of Skyforge’s first dev diary on pantheons (guilds), it sounds as though joining a group of players will be a near-mandatory move, especially if you want to reap the benefits of cool features like stat bonuses or special missions.

Pantheons will be easy to create but will require effort and resources to grow in its capabilities. One interesting feature is that guild leaders can create several clans to function as sub-guilds that officers oversee in order to share the load of leadership.

Individuals can benefit from being part of a pantheon by receiving character stat bonuses, special missions, and useful items. Pantheons can build up their own bases (strongholds) and participate in wars with other pantheons.

From a gameplay perspective it’s not a very good idea. However, it makes sense from an immersion stand point. Most gods are apart of a pantheon, Norse, Egyptian, Celtic etc. And they are stronger because of it.

Very excited about this title if will have challenging endgame without exploiters/hackers (which Allods online had with rune dupers)

Rohirrim Nothing builds my confidence in a new game like watching the developers declare that they’re not paying enough attention to learn from other developers’ mistakes.

This will hurt small guilds more than anything.

Eskatun Koolthulu But the issue is it penalizes characters for not joining.

Last time someone tried to “force” people in guilds by using lucrative perks(wow) it resulted to addons that auto-invite everyone into massive guilds of speechless people…the only thing that you see in the chat was “john joined the guild” and then “joe have leaved the guild” e.t.c.

If you create an immersive virtual world with dangerous places that people will have big trouble going there solo, this will create the base of small groups of travelers that will potentially create bonds and result in bigger groups e.t.c. Of course these places shouldn’t be mandatory for progression but they will be places that people will want to go(immersion, exploration).

Trying to force grouping by giving passive perks, will only result into passive community.

pid Skyforge avatars, animations and environment are at least couple generations beyond Hero engine and SWTOR. As for visual style – it’s more close to Mass Effect than SWTOR.

tylercles omedon666 The guild heirlooms are still a thing though, which is a must for levelling multiple alts.  That being said, only one character needs to be in a guild to get them.

Really wish I could have an opportunity to check this game out for myself, the information drip is insane. :(

omedon666 tylercles Guild perks still exist, but they’re fewer and weaker, and you get all of them immediately upon joining a guild. Guild levels are gone.

I0Shift0I tylercles So… wait… um, guy…. Tylercles stated a reason he gave up on guilds… and you… refused?

Does not compute.  He… doesn’t have to like guilds all of a sudden because you said “no…” that’s not how it works.

tylercles Wait, what? They took out perks?!  One of the reasons I don’t go back is because I’m in a different guild than friends I’ve moved on to other games with, and would be taking a logistical step downward to leave the perk-developed guild I was in if I went back!

Well, with very real bonuses in guilds, all those people that you became quaint with? You won’t be able to be in their guild. Because you’ll need those points and skills for PvP and/or PvE, favouring the already established groups.

Stats and skills with guilds… that’s not a good idea, especially not for PvP.
Between that announcement and the white damage, I sure lost a lot of itnerest in the game.

I hope for an in depth beta soon enough…

As long as they don’t force you to sell all your stuff through your guild and forgo an auction house, well, whatever.  Bringing people together is a step up from all this forced, phased, single player stuff that MMOs like WoW, ESO etc. have devolved the genre into.  And it doesn’t say you can’t solo *sometimes.*  So…sounds good.

Stop crying. Guilds are great for MMORPG’s.Most of my fondest memories are doing things with other people that I have become quaint with. It’s not like the perks will make or break gameplay. And like others have said, you don’t have to join a guild if you wanna remain socially awkward.

This is the first thing about Skyforge that really gives me pause. In my experience, guild incentives are always a terrible idea. Obviously, it sucks for solo players, but more importantly, it has an awful effect on guilds. It basically dooms any smaller guild, or any newer guild once the game is established. It was a disaster in WoW, and Blizzard rightly removed guild level perks after a while because they were having such a toxic effect.

Eskatun Koolthulu In most cases it’s better for the guild if they don’t.

Is it just my impression or do 50% of assets look like SWTOR? It is as if I’ve recognized textures, models, animations and particle effects that pretty much resemble those in SWTOR. As if they bought them on hero engine and than tweaked them a bit to distinguish themselves. But this effort failed because the similarity is still striking.

I might be wrong, maybe it’s just an artist having SWTOR and joined SF, and having a pretty distinctive touch…

The guild progression or benefits have to be balanced… but, I applaud any effort to get players to play together again, instead of alone together.

WildStar had a pretty good system where you only contributed to guild progress when doing things as a guild (or groups of guild members, etc.)

This will have to take that kind of thing into account so that simply “big numbers” don’t get on the fast-track to easy mode. And things earned by players through the guild system should stay the property of the guild.

I get their intent but I don’t if I can side with this execution.

I don’t want to be a huge downer, I get the motivation to put these sorts of features in games: so people will be invested enough in each other to stay together and not leave the game, so the guild becomes, mechanically as well as “socially,” another thing on the scales of weighing for or against the leap to the new shiny.

That being said, in my not-even-remotely-humble opinion, these features benefit no one.

-The guildless will have a notable disadvantage that they will forever know is just out their reach of their reasons not to guild, be that a standard of community quality, or a responsible “I honestly don’t have the schedule to properly contribute” observation.
-The guilded will have their numbers bloated by people that are only there for the bonuses, and will be under the gun (as volunteers, no less) to recruit and stay active so that the guild with shinier perks doesn’t scoop up their members.
The game is too saturated for any but the cream of the crop to create these demands, and they are demands, of their players.

I wish these guys all the best.  I can’t say I can agree with this move, but it’s their game, and their vision.

Ugh, I hate when games try to force joining a guild by doing stuff like this. Major turn off for me.

The biggest fear is that the guilds will put non-guild players at a huge disadvantage compared to a one player to one player comparison, which would suck for non-guild folks.
