Waitlisted for The Division’s beta? ‘Check back tomorrow,’ says Ubisoft

Were you assuming that handing over a stack of cash would secure your spot in The Division’s beta this weekend? Well, that much is true — but if you’re on Steam, you might have to wait a little while longer thanks to the fact that everyone else is waiting in line for the same thing.

Ubisoft addressed the problem on Steam earlier this morning. Long story short? Come back tomorrow.

We are seeing an unprecedented level of interest in The Division beta and we want to thank players for their enthusiasm and passion.

As a result, it is unlikely that the players who are currently on the waitlist will gain access to the beta today. Our goal is to grant access to all those players interested in playing The Division and we still hope to do so. Please check back tomorrow for an update on the status of the waitlist.

We thank you again for your excitement and understanding.

Bonus, you get your Friday night back.

Source: Steam. With thanks to Throckmorton.
Update: Ubisoft has put out a new blog this evening with an update on the beta situation, and you’re not gonna like it.

Due to the unprecedented demand for access to The Division Closed Beta, we can no longer guarantee access. If you have already pre-ordered The Division and have yet to receive your key, we’re working closely with our partners to ensure that you receive it tomorrow when we send out the next batch of keys.

For those of you that have not pre-ordered but are on the waiting list for The Division Beta, please know that we want to get as many people in the Beta as possible. However, space will be severely limited for the rest of the beta testing phase due to high-demand.

i think nvidia was given too many keys. they emailed me a week b4 beta started saying ty for being a loyal nvidia supporter yada yada heres a key.

i showed no prior intent on buying the game nor did i preorder. i was just emailed a key. there were also several dozen threads opened on cheapassgamer and the geforce forums with people giveing away there key because they had no interest in the game yet were given one

on the bright side i did enjoy the beta quite a bit and will be picking the game up at launch

Neo_Wolf Murmillo You’re right, my experience was on PC, and people weren’t that interested in killing each other, even when the extraction point was full of people, you know 5-10 people, they would just call the extraction an extra time.
And the players who had already extracted would stick around and help kill any reds that showed up.

On PC it felt more like I was on team with every other player in DZ, and then we would hunt down the few people who dared to turn red. :)

DPandaren Oh. Sounds slightly interesting. ME3 MP is one of the very few shooter MPs I liked (though just as a side activity since there was definitely several things that made clear that it was not the main feature).

Murmillo This is clearly not the EU ps4 server lol  As I mentioned earlier in the thread I went into the Dark zone and had a look around, did a bit of exploring and shot some mobs, got some loot.. and the only way you can get it out is via extraction and there are only 4 or 5 extraction points in the DZ and moment a flare goes up it is on everyones map.  And on our server EVERY agent comes running.. not just those who want to also extract their loot but also those who are rogue and want to take everyone’s loot.

What you end up with is a massive free for all gankfest… I mean i’m no pvp’er anyway its not what I find fun but even so I have to think anyone like me who goes in thier solo or hoping purely to do some pve and have the pvpers ignore them and let them get thier goodies out at the end of it is fooling themselves. lol

The PVE method for getting DZ equivalent loot (although never seen any purples via PVE so far, only in the Dark Zone) seems to be doing quests on a harder difficulty, which is much less time consuming in comparison.

i think alot of the problems people had with their keys is trying to redeem them on uplay instead of the division specific site. which is more thana little weird way to do things.

demand was visibly overwhelming before the pc/ps4 beta even began when they stopped allowed keys to be redeemed for the xbox beta option thursday night.

overall tho a good update for this article would be that they not only started letting everyone in with keys this morning, but are also getting to sign ups that didn’t have keys.

Khayotix Xijit yeahsomeone apparently doesn’t realize for the past 6-8 years uplay has existed and required for ubi games even if bought through steam.

ubi has their own steam like thing, they just also sell through the steam store (because it’s foolish not to, despite what some mmo companies think)

Estranged i think there might be more beta weekends to come before launch, as in uplay the rights is labeled as cbt1 more or less.

i feel bad for you tho bro, i’ve been having a blast which is why i missed this article yday. but i put in extra effort to get my steam preorder key set up asap because i saw how huge the demand was.

Ironically, after sending this along I got in to the beta. The game is actually pretty good at least in terms of gameplay, it’s hard to judge depth of content based off the limited missions you get in beta.

I’m a solo player, and I’ve been ganked once in the very beginning by some dude just killing everyone he ran into regardless if they had loot. And once by a team of 2 rogues moving in on me when I tried to extract. Generally people are really calm and peaceful. I think I might actually buy this game when it launches.

How do you end up giving out more keys than you have server space? Or is this yet another reason why paid “beta” is bullshit?

DPandaren

Neo_Wolf DPandaren Ten10K Even then, that’s one part of the game. You can go into the DK and just PvE in there. Just need to watch your back against reds. But for the most part of it, it’s like 75% PvE.

Syco_at_Twitch breetoplay PizzaDoh Alex J Yes, I am quite confident I am not missing anything. :D
The people who preordered on condition of beta access, however, are missing that 10% of the game they paid to access.

arktourosx Skyewauker Not really. You could say they  “could have had” sales from a dozen different genres of game, or player, or special interests. You can’t be everything to everyone, so the sales you could have had are only a small thing to focus on.

breetoplay PizzaDoh Alex J The beta is 90% restricted you aren’t missing anything

Alex J

PizzaDoh Alex J See, you don’t understand. Here’s an example: my friend pre-ordered The Division from Amazon, with “guaranteed closed Beta access” (Ubi forced Amazon to remove these words today). Amazon sent him a special key, my friend entered that key into Ubi’s “beta test registration” page. He then received the e-mail stating that “You now have GUARANTEED access to The Division’s Closed Beta”. Right after that, Ubi puts him on indefinite “waiting list” before enabling the Beta access for his Uplay account. While another friend, who got into Closed Beta through FREE Nvidia’s promotion and not through pre-oreder, is playing (and streaming it) today.

This is NOT the vendor’s issue (Amazon released the “beta registration keys” right after pre-ordering), the actual issue is with Ubisoft who are unable to even implement a proper “priority” system (prioritizing the Beta access for people who have actually pre-ordered the full game). I know some people abuse the “pre-order” system by cancelling their pre-order after getting the special key from the vendor, but Ubi’s action also leaves many people who were not actually planning on cancelling their pre-orders pretty annoyed.

breetoplay

PizzaDoh Alex J I would be pretty pissed if I had bought it. The way this was advertised, beta access was not just some incidental perk of preordering; it was one of the highlights and pushes of their campaign.

PizzaDoh

Alex J I mean, it sounds more like the vendors supplying the game and the keys simply ran out and the issue now is getting in contact with the vendors to get more keys added – something that isn’t as easy as a text message since it requires cross communication (which is slow always) as well as some of these vendors no doubt having systems that don’t easily support the addition of beta keys that get sent out to previous pre-orders who didn’t get it.

Sure, you could argue Ubi screwed up by not providing thousands of extra keys they didn’t think they needed to, but honestly it’s a bit silly to throw stones because Ubi didn’t get you into the beta test. It’s a beta test, while those typically are just server load tests, it’s really not designed to be early access.

After messing around, I can say this feels like Defiance done right without a gimmicky TV show. Honestly.
Combat is very good, the graphics are nice and there is a sense of caution you have when running around in the city.
If they support this game, it will do very well.

Just logging into Uplay doesn’t mean you are getting ubisofts servers …

Khayotix

Ten10K there is 80-90% pve 10% or so pvp and you can play everything singleplayer, except the darkzone(pvp enabled area so online only). So you are wrong on all accounts. The game is however per the devs tuned to be the most fun when in a co-op group.

Xijit Rumm Actually I had friends buy and download on steam today and get in, so this article should not be about purchases, that is misinformation given to Bree, so not her fault. The waitlisted people are people with beta keys only, not people who buy the game, and valve doesn’t run servers, we get logged into Uplay and use theirs when we launch the game. Please get your facts straight before people you worry paying folks for no reason.

I read between the lines as Valve won’t open up any more servers, but the Uplay / console betas are just fine and have plenty of room …

So much QQ about not being able to get in, there was plenty of sites selling beta keys for like $2 usd or just go to a brick and mortar store and drop $5 to get key (i.e. gamestop) If you dont like game you can get your $5 back. The only systems that seem to have had issues today is Steam  I played the game all morning and it was a blast, especially with some friend utilizing VOIP. Yes 90% of the game is locked in this beta demo but enjoy it for what its worth.

Syco_at_Twitch Lets be honest.  “Beta tests” are not tests anymore.  They are simply a way for the PR firms to let people have a glimpse of the game before release.  It’s been this way for a long while now.

So far I have enjoyed it a lot, pity there wasn’t more PVE in the beta to experience beyond the one mission, one side mission and then just random encounters.  But I can wait, I’m in no rush there is blatantly so much more that isn’t unlocked yet.

Samizdat grassisalwaysgreener I agree. It captures the spirit of games like Day Z minus the crushing boredom and constant restarting. That being said, games like Day Z have more freedom so there is a trade off I guess.

Samizdat

Samizdat

grassisalwaysgreener Yeah, I think the PvP zone strikes a good risk/reward ratio. You only lose things relevant to the PvP zone, and can periodically “lock in” your progress so you don’t really ever get set back too far.

Neo_Wolf
Guest
Neo_Wolf

DPandaren Ten10K No the Dark zone is definitely not PVE lol  There may be PVE things to do in there too, but by and large it is just a means to provide the loot that players then fight over when they try to extract.

grassisalwaysgreener
Guest
grassisalwaysgreener

PVE is solid, but I wish all of the zones were automatically multiplayer, and not just the dark zone. Also I have a feeling the story is going to be fairly boring and repetitive, but that’s really my only complaints.
Its definitely going to scratch the looter’s itch.
Dark zone is PVPVE done right. I dragged a group of elite NPCs over to where some player were extracting loot. While they turned to help save me from them, I set up behind the players and betrayed them stealing their loot.

Ten10K Most of the game is PvE. Even the Dark Zone is PvE.
