Survival MMORPG LUX seeks Kickstarter funding

Fancy a survival sandbox that has more MMORPG than multiplayer? Open-world, single-shard LUX might just be your game, and it’s on Kickstarter hoping for your dollar right now. LUX features real-time combat, a hunger system, stealth, settlement construction, NPC hiring, crafting, a diurnal cycle, personal bunkers, mecha mounts, and over 15 character types planned for launch. As in many survival games, your loot will stay on your corpse when you die. Oh yeah, and it’s super cute and seems to evoke shades of Don’t Starve.

Studio Chimera Games says its chief challenges will be day-one congestion and a simultaneous launch across PC, Xbox One, and PS4.

As of this writing, the game is approaching $75,000 funded of its $200,000 goal with just under two weeks to go. The $15 tier will net you the game, but if your pockets are sagging under the weight of all your money, you can shell out up to $10,000 to be immortalized in the game, get copies for your whole guild, and attend a swanky launch party.

Vexia Yeah, after all, they’re supposedly going to have at least one unique skill each from what I understood. Those skills could prove very useful or fun.

This looks pretty cute and enjoyable, but something that rubs me the wrong way about it is the KS-exclusive characters, one of whom is only available starting at the $500 tier level.

Id like to see a Magic The Gathering MMO. It would be a text/art based MMO (stat and strategy heavy)  with a PNP feel for character progression. Reason why I say Magic is because they have some of the best art ever created. Id probably kickstart that.

When I was checking out their Kickstarter page my wife asked me why Don’t Starve was doing a Kickstarter (she was hoping for another plushie). I don’t know how I feel about the game looking so very similar to Don’t Starve but I’d definitely enjoy this game as my friends had a blast in Don’t Starve Together.

So I go to click on the company, Chimera, ‘s main page which is rather simple looking but has a big “Better Business Bureau” tag on it(which a bit suspicious funny because it said “click for review” but you can’t because its just a picture they’ve put up there).

So I go and do a Chimera search on the California BBB’s site(since the contact number is listed in California for them.

Turns out they are actually listed as Arkham Labs in Ft Worth TX with their rating. They seem also to be known as Squarevault (relating to their  game  The Mob: Rise of the Don.)

Basically the company is a Facebook apps game maker with what seems to be significant cash shops.

This game’s  kickstarter  states there will be certain “characters” to play that will only be available to kickstarter folks.  This as well when you put into context the company’s game history and everything else seems to be very indicative of a pay to win model being planned with heavy cash shop emphasis.

Thus, kick starter supporters be wary. The mmorpg genre doesn’t need any more of these type companies looking to cash grab.

When I first saw the picture of the post I didn’t really like the art design. It looks better in the video (brighter I think). After I finished watching I had a better opinion of it. It has very interesting mechanics and the team looks quite talented, maybe this can be a huge hit if they make it diverse enough.

Looks like a way more in depth Don’t Starve.
