EverQuest is getting a new progression server

EverQuest has made a reputation for itself over the years as an MMO that isn’t afraid to experiment with progression servers, and as such Daybreak has announced that it is planning yet another such server for players to experience.

“The cool thing is that the entire team’s been talking about a progression server, and that’s one of the ongoing discussions we’re going to have and will hopefully wrap up in the next week or two,” Executive Producer Holly Longdale announced during a video Q&A session. “It’s less now about should we do a progression server and more about what kind of progression server will we do as a team.”

The devs said that players can expect a poll regarding different progression server “flavors” in the near future.

The original progression server was met with universal praise from players. This round will probably get the same.

It’s about time they gave EQ2 a progression server imo.

Totally agree. I know many of my old raider buddies would like a server capped at TSO.

Denice J Cook I would kill for an EQ2 server with decent population density like we had at launch, but levels split players far too wide across the game and every few expansions adds yet another city to spread people out. What would be really fascinating is a progression server that locks peoples’ levels very low and slowly increases the level cap.
It could start with a level 10 limit for the first month or two to let everyone explore the same zones together and get the population density up. People would have time to get their main level and AA level to 10, get tradeskills to 10, do ALL the level 1-10 quests, complete all the level 10 collections, and maybe roll a few level 10 alts.
After a few months, the upper level cap could be raised to 20 and everyone who got to 10 would get a prize. Everyone below level 10 would be instantly levelled up to 10 so the server’s entire population is now level 10-20 for the next few months. Repeat the same thing every few months until the current level cap is hit.

Definitely cool to see them doing another one of these. The last one was fun for a while. There were some pretty big problems as well so hopefully this time around they have those things fixed up.

After playing on P99 I am not as excited for this as I would have thought. Curious to see what options they have for progression.

Seems interesting enough.  Although, it makes me wonder if things like this are enough to instill confidence in Daybreak from the veterans of the titles it inherited.

TheBBP I had to like your post just for the proper use of ‘piqued’ instead of ‘peaked’ or ‘peeked’.

So…Everquest 2 players have been asking for a progression server for years and years; actually, the PvE crowd wants a PvE progression server, and the PvP crowd wants a progression server that’s perma-locked at Kingdom of Sky (and so do I!), so that’s two progression servers that EQ2 players have been begging for since forever now, and….Everquest 1 gets another progression server.

Okay, what?!  Grrrrr.
