Shadowrun Online rebrands as Shadowrun Chronicles, aims for April release

Rebranding, that'll fix everything, it always does.

Shadowrun Online isn’t Shadowrun Online any longer. Hot on the heels of its announcement that it’s secured a physical distributor, the game has rebranded itself as Shadowrun Chronicles. A recent development post explains that the name Shadowrun Online created expectations that ran counter to the team’s goals, so hopefully the name change will more accurately reflect their design intent. Draw your own conclusions there.

If you’re holding off on drawing those conclusions until the game actually launches, though, you won’t have to wait much longer. The same post also announces that the game will be launching on April 28th, just a little under two months away. You can check out the most recent trailer for the game just past the break.

ihatevnecks pid Steam comments are about as useful and relevant as YouTube comments…. maybe less so, because you know what to expect with YouTube; people still think the Steam community is there to help them. ;)

davidjames79 Playing Returns & Dragonfall just makes me want a real Shadowrun game. They’re nice, but they’re just too SR-lite (or SR-mobile…). The character system and combat are way too simple, even getting a mod like Shadowrun Unlimited doesn’t give a very good SR feeling.

davidjames79 McSleaz Definitely how I’ve always imagined it when I played, no question.

pid These are comments based on a pre-release version, and the devs (on the page linked from the article) have already said it’ll be a 4-man team online RPG with specific hub zones beyond just the co-op mission zones. The 2-player functionality wasn’t added all that long ago from what I remember, so no reason to doubt them on any of this really. Steam comments, on the other hand, don’t have a history of being particularly informed ;)

Oh man, that blows… still 2 players is ok for the kind of scenarios I’m hearing the game will feature I guess.

Back in the day I could see people wanting to slap “online” on a box to let you know dial up wasn’t gonna cut it in a world where reliable internet connections weren’t as common as today.
Nowadays its a leftover of sorts that has become an mmo naming convention, even though many more games have online components.

Razael Good for you but just an advice. Read negative comments on Steam before you buy.

Chuki792 It’s only 2-player co-op. No way to play in a small “group”…

I didn’t play it so I’m talking about comments on Steam. As far as I can tell this is barely a co-op tactical game. No real RPG elements and especially no MMO elements. No hub, no area where you can actually see other players other than the actual co-op maps, which are limited to 2 players at a time. Why is it even listed on MOP? It should be removed completely and left to single-player websites.
