Frontier has posted a change log for Elite: Dangerous 1.2, which is available for download today. The “Wings” update adds multiplayer group functionality enabling up to four pilots to fly, fight, and trade together. The patch also boasts two new ships, the Vulture and the Fer-de-Lance, as well as a comms interface overhaul and a laundry list of stability fixes and tweaks.

Massively OP spoke to David Braben about PC vs. console considerations in an interview we published this morning.

Still trying to get excited about this game, but the best I can do is a slightly vigorous yawn.

manzes Lets look at some of the more notable events in MMO history:
SWG’s JTL Launch
SWG’s NGE conversion
Eve Online’s “monoclegate” debacle
SWTOR conversion to F2P faster than practically any major AAA MMO in history.
Now, what you’re attempting to assert is that the sentiments of forum posters either before or during these events were not representative of the majority.  Is that correct?
As much as you may WANT to believe it, history has proven time and time again that developers ignore their communities voices at their peril.  Even if those voices are only a minority of the total players, those voices often echo what others are thinking but don’t try to say.

so does 1.2 actually make it so you can play with friends like an MMO and does it have things for groups of friends to do together?

BalsBigBrother “While I do think they could do with being reduced a bit  its a shame that all the other nice things are seemingly being forgotten because of that.”

Nope. It’s not. People who speaks in the forums are just a very little % of the people who play Elite: Dangerous. Whatever they say, for the good, or for the bad, rarely represents the sentiment of the majority of the game players.

Good to hear that development continues.  But it’s still not enough yet to encourage me to buy the game.

“In a minor update released before the end of the week we’ll reduce the
price of non-trade ships and abolish the way fuel costs are scaled by
ship type. What’s more, some of the smaller ships, like the Sidewinder
will gain a powerful new advantage as their reduced profile makes them
more effective for smuggling. These are minor changes but ones that
dramatically increase the importance and viability of craft less suited
to trading.”

Cotic_OP ElMutharino I stopped going to the forums too, it’s a shame, they were an excellent source of information but they have been taken over. the big error was selling the game as a MMO, it attracted the usual idiots
